Аннотация
Презентация «Thanksgiving Day» предназначена для студентов I-II курсов колледжа, выполнена на английском языке, в рамках программы по дисциплине «Иностранный язык». Презентация может быть использована как на аудиторных занятиях, так и при самостоятельной работе обучающихся. На слайдах в хронологическом порядке представлена история возникновения праздника «День Благодарения». Выполнена на английском языке и доступна в понимании.

развитие самостоятельности, повышение мотивации к изучению иностранного языка, воспитание уважения к традициям и обычаям других стран;
развитие социокультурной компетенции, расширение знаний по теме «Страноведение», осуществление поиска информации, умение анализировать, выражать свое мнение по исследуемой проблеме.

The Pilgrims were
a group of people from England who were faithful to their religious beliefs. In 1620, a religious Puritan community sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in the New World. The Mayflower was the ship that transported English adventurers to Plymouth, Massachusetts. The Pilgrims’ trip to the New World aboard the Mayflower lasted 65 days. It was a cold and damp journey, the ship was wooden, passengers were not allowed to light a fire for warmth or for cooking their food.

The Wampanoag Indians were curious about the new people on their land. The Wampanoag leader sent his friends to the Pilgrim settlement to communicate with them.
The Wampanoag Indians taught the Pilgrims the skills to survive in New England. They taught them how to grow crops (corn and squash).

The First Thanksgiving 1621. The Pilgrims were very thankful that they were able to survive in Plymouth. They decided to have a great feast, or a thanksgiving,
to celebrate. They asked their Wampanoag friends to join the feast as well. In 1621, after a hard first year in the New World the Pilgrim's fall harvest was very successful and plentiful. There was corn, vegetables, fish, meat. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states.

The first President of the United States, George Washington proclaimed the first nation thanksgiving celebration in America on November 26, 1789, “as a day of public thanksgiving.”
He signed it on October 3, 1789, and decreed that this day of thanksgiving would take place on Thursday, November 26 of that year.

In 1863 president Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving celebration on the last Thursday in November. It 1941 president Roosevelt proclaimed it a Federal holiday. Since then each president has issued a Thanksgiving Day proclamation, usually designating the fourth Thursday of each November as the holiday.

The celebration of Thanksgiving will be incomplete without the legendary Turkey. It is a tradition for the US Presidents to give a pardon to the White House Thanksgiving Turkeys.
Every year, the President of
the United States will “pardon” a turkey. The live turkeys are pardoned and live out on a farm or sent to Disneyland in California or Wait Disney World in Florida where they serve as the honorary grand marshals of Disney’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
About 280 million turkeys are sold for Thanksgiving celebrations. The turkey is one of the most famous birds in North America.
Benjamin Franklin wanted to make the wild turkey, not the Bald Eagle, the national bird of the USA.
Thanksgiving Day
The Thanksgiving celebrations is a time for family meetings. Thanksgiving holiday is the best time to give best wishes to each other. You may write your message on the thanksgiving card or send it with a thanksgiving poem with your name. It would be a best gift to your friends or family members to send a thanksgiving card.

День Благодарения – самый американский праздник, так как зародился в Америке. Посыл праздника заключается в следующем:
всегда необходимо кого-либо за что-то хорошее благодарить;
не стоит горевать об утраченном, следует восхищаться подаренным;
демонстрирует оптимизм и веру в лучшее будущее.
