Easter in Great Britain

Easter is a religious festival. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And so the theme of Easter is rebirth. Easter symbols are eggs, chickens and rabbits.

Traditions

During the Easter period, schools are closed for a 2-week holiday. And for adults they make an official four-day weekend

The last Friday before Easter is known as Good Friday. Everyone treats each other to delicious raisin buns topped with a cross (hot cross buns).

On Easter morning on Sunday, the whole family of the British go to church, meet the sunrise there. It is traditionally to put on new clothes - this is a symbol of the arrival of spring.

Another symbol of Easter is the Easter basket. Eggs, bread and other food are placed in this basket. In the church, the priest blesses all these baskets, and then, in the family circle at the festive table, all these dishes are eaten together.

Easter lunch

On Easter, it is traditionally to gather the whole family together at the table. They cook lamb with vegetables, bake an Easter cake, also prepare various salads and color eggs.

Traditional entertainment

During the Easter period, the famous dance (Morris Dancing) is performed. The dancers are dressed like Robin Hood. They dance in churches, on the streets and in other places.

In the city of Olney, a fun competition is held - running with pancakes. Mostly women take part in it, they run with a frying pan with a pancake and throw it up. The winner is the one who reaches the finish line the fastest.

Another tradition is that Easter eggs are hidden around the house and in the garden on Saturday evening so that children can find them on Sunday morning.

Easter rabbit

Not a single Easter holiday in Britain is complete without a rabbit. The rabbit is considered a symbol of success and good luck in the family. The image of the Easter Bunny can be found everywhere: on postcards, Easter decor, in pictures, etc.

Sweet rabbit figures are sold in all stores: from chocolate, marzipan mass, marshmallows, marmalade.
