Herbert George Wells
THE GREATEST WORKS OF THE WRITER are
“The time machine”
“ Invisible Man”
“War of the Worlds”
“Island of Doctor Moro”
“Liberated World”
FEATURES OF THE FILMING OF LITERARY MASTERPIECES.
Herbert Wales has a long film history. Films based on his stories began to appear in his lifetime. There are currently more than 30 film adaptations.
We noticed that the main part of the list is the screenings of the same books.
It is easy to determine that the most popular works are:
“The time machine”
“ Invisible Man”
“War of the Worlds”
“Island of Doctor Moro”
“THE First men on the Moon"
Why is such an element of the book as the time machine itself used in more than a hundred films and cartoons, and the film adaptation itself was shot only a few times?
In order to find answers to our questions, we decided to compare three of the most contrasting works: “The time machine”, as a popular work that has been screened fewer times," War of the Worlds ", as the work with the largest number of film adaptations and “Island of Doctor Moro”, as the film adaptations with the highest ratings of film critics.
The reason for their success was resemblance to the original text of the author.
By the end of the comparing
of this movies we came to the conclusion that:
The further the film diverged from the author’s ideas, the less popular he became. Conversely, the more accurate the film’s events, the higher its box office receipts and critical reviews.
Thus, we can conclude that the success of the screens did not depend on the budget, the special effects or the director’s name, it’s about preserving the author’s genius and the author’s idea.
