Poveglia Island
Poveglia Island is one of the most famous in the Venetian Lagoon, but this fame is very sad. The island is called one of the most terrible and “ghostly” places on earth.
in 1922, a mental hospital opened in Poveglia, which was closed only in 1968.
According to certain sources, the sick in Poveglia were abused with particular cruelty. Inhumane experiments were performed on the unfortunate people. The head doctor of the hospital was driven crazy by ghosts and jumped from the island bell tower.
