Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov was a great poet and prose writer. He was born in Moscow on October 15, 1814


Lermontov spent his early years at his grandmother's estate in Tarkhany .The poet received his elementary education, studying at home. From 1828 to 1830, he studied at the university boarding school in Moscow .In 1830, the future poet entered the Moscow University. At first he studied at the moral and political faculty, and then - at the verbal faculty.After graduating from the university, Mikhail spent several years in the school of Guards Corporals in St. Petersburg. Happened The first duel was with Ernest Barant, whom he met at a ball at the Countess Laval. In the first part of the duel, Lermontov's sword broke. After which the poet decided not to aim, the Frenchman simply missed.

Poet's death

In Pyatigorsk there was a quarrel with retired major Nikolai Martynov. The duel took place on July 27, 1841. Lermontov shot upward, and Martynov fired a shot directly into the chest of the poet.
