On the night of July 13-14, 1977, a blackout occurred in New York due to lightning strikes
- a massive power outage. Looting and plundering of shops began. Many expensive DJ sets were stolen from electronics stores, which were beyond the means of the Negro population. As a result, a large number of new DJs have appeared, playing in the newly emerging style of hip-hop, which gave a powerful impetus to its development and popularization outside the Bronx.
