Yekaterinburg
The symbols of the flag reproduce those of the coat of arms of Ekaterinburg: Emerald green - historical color of the Urals. The mine and the furnace symbolize an industrialized city of high scientific, technical and cultural potential. They are situated right in the middle of the flag within the green stripe. The yellow stripe symbolizes the beauty and grandeur of the Ural Mountains connecting Europe and Asia. The blue stripe at the bottom symbolizes the Iset River connecting Europe and Asia, the past and the present.
It is one of the largest financial and business centers in Russia. It is located on the eastern slope of the Ural mountains .The city was named after the wife of Peter I, Yekaterina I .In the 1924-1991 period the name of the city was Sverdlovsk.
Yekaterinburg is the capital of the Ural region in Russia. Many fateful and significant historical events, human hopes, misfortunes and otherwise good and kind events happened there. A great number of legends, myths are connected with our city. Yekaterinburg is a brilliant city, worthy of being one of the best ones not only in our country but in abroad.
Citizens of Yekaterinburg are proud of magnificent buildings, architectural monuments, picturesque parks, nice shops and tall skyscrapers, a subway in the city. They hope that it will be flourishing and become more beautiful, cozy and convenient for them and guests of the megapolis.
Yekaterinburg is not only rich in historical events but it is also a city of high culture. There are a lot of museums in it including open-air ones, about 20 professional theaters. Currently, there are 16 state universities in the city in which more than 140 thousand students study in total. There are also 45 research institutes and about 100 design and engineering organizations, about 4 dozen libraries in Yekaterinburg.
