Rio de Janeiro

On 2 October 2009, the  International Olympic Committe e selected Rio de Janeiro to host the 2016 Summer Olympics . Rio made their first bid for the  1936 Summer Olympics, but lost to Berlin. They later made bids for the 2004 and 2012  Games, but failed to become a candidate city both times. Those games were awarded to  Athens and London  respectively.Rio will become the first Brazilian and South American city to host the games. In July 2007, Rio successfully organized and hosted the  XV Pan American Games.

On 30 October 2007, Brazil was chosen as the official host of the  2014 FIFA World Cup. Rio de Janeiro is one of the host cities of the  FIFA World Cup, and the final is most likely to be held at Maracanã Stadium.  Football is the most popular sport in Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro is home to five traditional Brazilian football clubs: Vasco da Gama, Botafogo, Fluminens e, Flamengo, and América Football Club.
