V.I.Vasnetsov

    Victor Ivanovich Vasnetsov(1848-1926) - famous Russian painter and architect. Founder of Russian Revival style.

    He was born at 15 of May in 1848 in Lopyal, Vyatka Governorate. Studied in a seminary in Vyatka, then in Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint-Petersburg. His paintings were first exhibited in 1869. Died in Moscow in 1926.

Most-known pictures: Alyonushka, Flying Carpet.

"Alyonushka"

Vasnetsov began it in 1880. There is an interesting story about Alyonushka's prototype. It says that he met a girl, who inspired him to start working on a painting.

Vasnetsov finished it in 1881. Art critic Grabar called "Alyonsuhka" one of the best paintings of the Russian school.

"Flying Carpet"

This painting is one of the first in which Vasnetsov turned to the fairy-tale theme that brought him worldwide fame. He started it in 1880.
The plot of the picture tells the story of Ivan the Tsarevich, who goes after the Firebird, which is used to steal apples in the royal garden. 
Nowadays stored at the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum.

"Moving House"

This painting is one of the most popular Vasnetsov's works. It was painted in 1876. "Moving House" is one of the paintings that connected Victor Vasnetsov with the travelling exhibitions. This work, shows the ills of society, is fully in keeping with the theory and practice of this movement.
