Level: Intermediate
Time: 20 – 25 minutes
Aim: to review Past Simple and Present Perfect Tenses
Materials: the picture with a football field on a big sheet of paper; 2 pictures with a ball,
2 needles or 2 magnets; a set of cards with the sentences in Past Simple Tense
and in Present Perfect Tense

Warmer: Divide the group of students into 2 teams, using the rhyme:
One, two, three, four, five,
I caught a fish alive.
Six, seven, eight, nine, ten,
I let him go again.
O – U – T spells out goes you!
Main activity:
1. Hang the picture with a football field on the blackboard (Appendix 1).
2. Mark the beginning of the game in the middle of the field, attaching the balls of 2 teams
with needles or magnets.
3. The teacher reads the sentence in turn each team (Appendix 2).
4. The players define the tense of the sentence – Past Simple Tense or Present Perfect
Tense.
If the team answers correctly, it will get one point and move the ball to the opponent`s

gate on one line forwards.
6. When the ball one of the teams reaches the opponent`s gate, this team is the winner.
