Level: Intermediate; Advanced
Materials: Pictures; notebook; projector; screen; worksheets for students
Aim: to learn to identify the features of connected speech in the song “You`re Beautiful”
by James Blunt
Pre-Listening Activities
1. Brainstorming
The teacher writes the word “BEAUTY” on the blackboard and asks the students to name their associations with this word.
2. Questions
The teacher hangs the pictures on the blackboard and tries to make the students talk
about the topic of the lesson, using the following questions:
· Do you think that they are beautiful? Why? Why not?
· What is beauty for you?
· How often do you think about beauty?
· What are the most important features, when determining someone`s beauty?
· What do you think about beauty contests?
· How would the world be different if we never considered beauty?

While-Listening Activities
The teacher asks the students to listen to the song “You Are Beautiful” by James Blunt two times very carefully. Before listening he gives them worksheets with the lyrics. While they are listening to the song they circle the right word / words.
Post-Listening Activities
1. Checking of the Work
The students change their worksheets with a partner and check their work.
2. Connected Speech
The students look at the song`s lyrics and try to find the features of connected speech.
3. Connected Speech – Reading Practice
The students practice reading the verses of the song, paying attention to the features of connected speech.
Optional Activities (If there will be time)
1. Watching the video
The students watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oofSnsGkops, paying attention to the singer`s appearance.
2. Reading & Discussion
The students read a short description and circle the right word / words. Then discuss in class their choice.
Homework
The students should write a short description of a famous person and bring his / her photo.

The students complete the sentences on the cards and then read aloud them in the class:
· Now I can / know ________________________________________.
· During today`s lesson I ____________________________________.
