Have you ever been to such a place like Novomikhailovka? It is a small village in Orlovskaya Region, but it has lots of places of interest. Besides, it is located in a very beautiful area and is famous for rich forests and clean water.

    Spotlight on Russia finds out what is interesting in Novomikhailovka

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel is of historical value¹ and is protected by the state as a monument of architecture of the 19^th century. The Swiss architect Domenico Gilardi built the Church by order of Prince Sergei Mikhailovich Golitsyn in 1831. This temple² is the last work of Domenico Gilardi in Russia and it is the best of his creation in cult architecture. The Church was built of red brick, was plastered and painted white; and it was connected to the bell tower by an open passage under a gable roof. 

The family of the famous Russian writer Dmitry Ivanovich Pisarev once lived in the village of Grunets. At the beginning of the 19^th century, Pisarev's grandfather purchased³ it from Golitsyn. It was here that the future writer spent his childhood years. D. I. Pisarev's mother, Varvara Dmitrievna, is buried in the parish cemetery. In 1990, a memorial stone was placed on her grave.

To mark the 150^th anniversary⁴ of the critic's birth, a library named after Pisarev was opened in our village. The  library has become another attraction of the village.

In 1941, during the defense of Novomikhailovka, 17 brave soldiers were killed in one battle. All of them were buried in one mass grave. In its place there is a monument to the fallen soldiers who defended our village.
