The emergence1 of Novomikhailovka is connected with name of Prince Sergei Mikhailovich Golitsyn. Two centuries ago, the territory of our village was covered with dense forests2, and wild animals roamed3 here. Most of the Korsakovsky district belonged at that time to S. M. Golitsyn. Sergey Mikhailovich had a farmstead4 in the village of Golun, and in our forests he liked to hunt. The Prince's favorite forest is now called "Golenky" or " Golitsynsky "or" Golenkaya Lapka" (Bare Paw). The Bare Paw still has a lot of game5. Local hunters still prefer to hunt there today.

The Prince liked the picturesque surroundings6. One day, passing by, he decided to build a temple7 here. To do this, Golitsyn invited the Swiss architect Domenico Gilardi from Moscow. At that time many European architects restored8 Moscow after the fire of the Patriotic war of 1812. After finishing his work in Moscow, Gilardi arrived9 in Oryol province. In his project, under the signature "Russia, projects for an unknown area", there were three churches: the Trinity Church in the village of Koledino in the Moscow region, the Preobrazhenskaya (Transfiguration) Church in Ryazan, and our Church – the Church of Michael the Archangel. These churches have a lot in common, but there are also differences, they are like sisters.

In 1830, the parish10 was founded, through the Golunsky parish Department, and in 1831, the construction of the Church was completed. The temple attracted people, and more and more families began to settle11 around it. So our village arose12, which was first named Sergievsky – after the Prince, Sergei Mikhailovich, and then Mikhailovsky – after the Church, the Church of Michael the Archangel. The priests were the first to settle near the temple. Originally there were three houses behind the Church. If you look at this place now, you can see the forest belt that native inhabitants13 call “Popova” (Priest's). Unfortunately, these houses have not been preserved to this day.
