Resources 1­3 minutes Greeting Teacher greets learners and introduces the lesson objectives. To   practice   writing   by   creating   an   alternative   ending   to   the original story. PPP, slide 2 Reading comprehension Teacher divides the Learners into pairs and hands out worksheets with sentences from the text. Learners need to discuss them with their partners and put the sentences in the correct order. (P) Appendix 1 4­8 minutes PPP, slide 3 Teacher   shows   the   answers   on   the   slide   and   learners   check themselves. (W) Answers: 1. Della looks at her money: $1.87.  2. Della visits Mrs. Sofronie. 3. Jim gives a Christmas gift to Della. 4. Della gives a Christmas gift to Jim. 5. Della and Jim put their gifts away. Teacher asks the learners if they think a similar situation could happen in their culture and what are typical gifts that people give each other for different celebrations. Learners share their ideas. 9­34 minutes Writing Teacher asks the learners the following question “What would  have happened if Della didn’t cut her hair and Jim didn’t sell his  watch?” Learners share their ideas with the class. (W) Teacher hands out worksheets and tells the learners to write their  alternative version of the ending. (I, FA) 35­40 minutes After completing the essays, some learners can read theirs to the  whole class. (W) Reflection Teacher offers the learners to write their thoughts about either the  story or the lesson in the form of a cinquain.
