Objectives:

-to extend pupils’ knowledge about London;

-to develop pupils’ speaking, listening comprehension skills;

-to enrich pupils’ vocabulary on the given topic.

Equipments: posters with the sights of London, slide - show «Welcome to Great Britain», a map of Great Britain, a map of London.

Procedure

I Warming up

 My dear friends, today I invite you to London, the capital of Great Britain. You know millions of people from different countries visit London every year. The city is beautiful and full of nice sightseeings.

1.Оrganization moment

Good morning, boys and girls! I am glad to see you. How are you? There are some guests at our lesson, let’s greet them. (PP: Good afternoon)Today we will travel around  the   city. It is the capital of the country, the head of this country is the queen Elizabeth2.  Do you remember this city? (PP: Yes, it is London.)  Of  course, it is  London,  the capital of  Great Britain.  Do you remember  what  we learnt about London?  What is every city, town, country proud of? (PP:  They are proud of sights and famous people.) Yes, we learnt different sights, famous people of London. At our lesson

you will be guides today, and our guests will be tourists. Begin our trip.

2. But before we start  let’s repeat the words and sounds. Guides must speak correctly, loudly.

Let’s repeat some sounds:

  • [ei] – raven, great, statue, play, place
  • [ju:] – museum, new, beautiful
  • [i:] – see, meet, week
  • [a:] – park, car, partner
  • [i] – big, different, bridge                                 

Do you remember these names? Listen and repeat after me.

 2.Presentaition. Reading the text London

       London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and commercial center. It is one of the largest cities in the world and the largest city in Europe. Its population is about 8 million people. London is situated on the both banks of the River Thames. Traditionally London is divided into several parts: the City, Westminster, the West End, and the East End. Numerous banks, offices and firms are situated there. The City extends over an area of about 2,6 square kilo metes. About half a million people work there, but less than 6 thousand live there. Westminster is the historic center of government. The West End is the richest and most beautiful part of London. The best hotels, restaurants and theatres are situated there. The East End is the poorest part of London. There are a lot of factories and docks here. The port of London is also in the East End.

3.Practice

We continue our trip. Look at the pictures of London’s parks and say what they areWhat are they famous for? 

(PP: Hyde Park, St. James’s Park, Regent’s Park, Kensington Gardens)

 (PP: They are famous for trees, flowers. Regent’s Park is famous for London Zoo. Hyde Park is famous for  Speaker’s Corner….)

4. Now, lets play a game, named «Agree or disagree»

I will read the sentences and you must say agree or disagree. But firstly let’s remember how to say. Repeat after me.
