In the culture of each country a special place is given to mythology.
Our ancestors believed in Myths and they are linked with the consciousness of the people. Today we will talk about the English mythical creatures.

English folklore (myths, legends, etc.) has roots in the folklore and mythology of the people that formed the English nation, in the Celtic mythology of the tribes and in the German mythology of the tribes that inhabited the island during the great migration of peoples (Angles, Saxons, Utahs).
Later, the legends and beliefs of the Celtic people had a great influence on the formation of English folklore.

Hellhound is a mythical supernatural creature in the form of a dog. This is a huge black dog sometimes with brown spots with luminous red or yellow eyes, very strong and fast, with an unpleasant odor. They guard the entrance to the world of the dead or prey on lost souls and guard supernatural things.

Boggart is a spirit or brownie in English lower mythology. Usually boggart is friendly to the owners of the house, but sometimes it is capable of evil tricks (untie livestock, beat dishes, steal food).
They are shown mainly at night, when they are easier to confuse with real monsters.

Spirits are usually attached to the house, and in order to get rid of them you must move. But often Boggart moves with the inhabitants of the house. And the more despairing family, the merrier Boggart.

Brownies are home spirits in the mythology of Scotland and northern England, small people about 90 centimeters tall, similar to little elves with brown combed hair and bright blue eyes. The skin of these creatures is fair, although the color of the brownies depends on the place where they live, and on what they eat.

These creatures come at night and finish what the servants did not have time to do. While people are resting, the brownies are engaged in all kinds of economic activities: they weave, cook, clean, wash, engage in human tools, guard chickens from foxes and thieves. In response, the brownie expects gratitude in the form of a krynka of cream or fresh milk and a specially baked butter cake.

Goblins are supernatural humanoid creatures living, according to Western European mythology, in underground caves and not tolerating sunlight.

Goblins are some of the ugliest creatures in European mythology. They have long ears, scary, cat-like eyes, and long claws on their hands. Goblins hide their ears under a hat, their claws in gloves, but they can’t hide their eyes, so, according to legend, you can recognize them by their eyes.

Pixies are small creatures from English mythology, a species of elves or fairies.
Their favorite pastime is to knock travelers out of the way. In addition, pixies steal horses, especially foals. The most reliable way to drive away the pixies is to turn the jacket inside out or show them the iron cross.

However, the pixies are quite friendly. They look after abandoned graves, leave flowers on them, help around the house.
According to some sources, pixies are the spirits of children who died before baptism; according to others, they are spirits of druids or pagans who haven’t gone to heaven or hell.

Grindilow is a scum from the legends of English Yorkshire, a swamp-green monster with sharp horns and long bony fingers.
These dangerous creatures adore ponds and lakes, where they can grab a child who carelessly plays too close to the water and drag him to the bottom.

Jenny's Green Tooth is a river or swamp witch in English folklore, whom explained the brutal death of people in water.
According to the legend, Jenny's Green-Toothed had a green body, long hair, large nails and sharp green fangs. Some people consider her a mermaid and describe her in the same way, but only with a fish tail.
"Green foam" on the surface of the lake.

Jenny's green-toothed loved to drown in water young children for fun. Jenny's green-toothed not only drowned the children, but scratched them to the point of blood, bit their throat, or simply scared them with her ugly appearance. The approach of Jenny is evidenced by the so-called "green foam." Sometimes, at night, a monster lurks on tree branches.

Bloody Mary is an English urban legend, according to which if you say the name "Bloody Mary" three times in front of a mirror in a dark room, then her ghost will appear. Traditionally, the legend of Bloody Mary refers to both ghost stories and witch stories.

Traditionally, Bloody Mary is associated with Mary of England (Tudor) (the years of her life - 1516-1558) - who also had the nickname "Bloody Mary" for her brutal manner of government and reprisal against political opponents.

Elves, according to the beliefs of the Germanic and Scandinavian people, are good or evil. But in British mythology, elves are strange creatures. They have their own oddities and their own mischief.

Elves love to steal. Most of all like newborns.
They also really like young brides, and they are often taken to the forests and hills.

As in many other countries, tales of gnomes are very common in Britain. Dwarves are considered famous spirits of mountains and land. Dwarves have a long and thick beard. They have incredible physical strength and live much longer than an ordinary person, gnomes are very bad in nature, and they consider all people greedy, and therefore they do not like it.
