Russian National Traditions

Every Nation has different customs and traditions,
its own way of life.
The Russians are known to be a hospitable and open-hearted people.

Our people are hardworking, patient, never loosing hope for better life.

Our country is famous
for Russian traditional specific crafts and its skilled craftsmen.
Painted boxes of Palekh, coloured shawls of Pavlov Posad, clay toys of Dymkovo, laces of Vologda are known all over the world.

The Russian Matryoshka doll, also called a nesting doll, is perhaps the best-known symbol of Russia around the world.
It is a set of wooden dolls nested into each other.

The main dishes of the traditional menu are blini (pancakes) with honey, caviar or sour cream, different soups, pirozhki, pelmyeni served with mustard, butter, vinegar or sour cream.

The greatest Russian love is tea. It's drunk without milk and is often served with homemade jam (varienye), baranki and pirozhki.

Samovar has traditionally been the most recognized symbol of Russian hospitality and family comfort as well as a sign of prosperity. The Russian word samovar literally means “self-boiling.”

Valenki are Russian national footwear.
They are traditionally made of thick felt or ship wool.
They are not so widespread today in big cities but are still common in the countryside.

Balalaika is a Russian plucked string musical instrument and one of the most recognizable symbols of Russia.
It has a triangular wooden body and
three strings on its long neck.
