Research plan

Aim:
To study ways to translate poetic texts. To find out the features and difficulties that will be faced.
Tasks:
1. To define “What literary translation of poetic texts is”
2. To study the main tasks of the theory of translation
3. To analyze the problem of the ratio of the content of the original text and the translation
4. To try to translate the poem of Robert Burns “My heart’s in the Highlands”
5. To compare my result with the translations of others
6. To analyze and make the conclusions

Translation of poetic texts requires certain knowledge and skills. It can be done well only by a professional and experienced person

Research plan

The theoretical and practical significance of the research work is determined by the scientific contribution to the study of this issue and the possibility of using the research as a reference material.

The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that the problems of poetic translation are still not fully understood. My research work can be a recommendation for beginning translator engaged in poetic translation.

The research used the following methods:
• Empirical (the study of various sources of information, observation)
• Theoretical (analysis, synthesis, hypothesis building)

What is a literary translation

Literary translation- is a type of literary creativity in which a work that exists in one language is recreated in another.

Literary translation is one of the most difficult types of translation. It includes the translation of literary texts, popular science texts, articles, and etcetera. When performing a literary translation, the translator faces a much more complex problem than simply transforming the text in one language into text in another language. It is important to convey the mood, emotions, to place accents in the same way as the author of the original text.

Types of translation

There are three types of translation:
Word for word translation.
Literal translation.
Literary translation.

Translation theory

Translation theory has the following objectives:
• To define the translation as an object of linguistic research;
• To develop the basics for the classification of types of translation activities;
• To develop principles for the scientific description of the translation process;
• To define the concept of “translation rate” and develop principles for assessing the quality of translation.

The process of translating poetry causes some difficulties and problems. Among the problems are the following:
• Preservation of national identity.
• Saving the spirit and time of the work.
• Saving size and rhyme.
• Ambiguity of information in the text of the original.

A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth;
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.

Farewell to the mountains high covered with snow;
Farewell to the straths and green valleys below;
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods;
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.

В горах мое сердце... Доныне я там.
По следу оленя лечу по скалам.
Гоню я оленя, пугаю козу.
В горах мое сердце, а сам я внизу.

Прощай, моя родина! Север, прощай,-
Отечество славы и доблести край.
По белому свету судьбою гоним,
Навеки останусь я сыном твоим!

Прощайте, вершины под кровлей снегов,
Прощайте, долины и скаты лугов,
Прощайте, поникшие в бездну леса,
Прощайте, потоков лесных голоса.

В горах мое сердце... Доныне я там.

С диким оленем умчалось в леса,

С полной доблести, чести родимой страной.
Неважно, куда и где я иду,
Холмы и нагорья несказанно люблю.

Прощаюсь с горами, с верхушкой заснеженной;
Прощаюсь я с лесом диким и смешанным;
Прощаюсь с полями, с зеленой долиной;
Прощаюсь с протоками, водою глубинной.

Мое сердце не здесь, мое сердце в горах.
С диким оленем умчалось в леса,
Следит за косулей и ночью, и днем.
