December 29th, Monday New Year traditions around the world.
Italy Food is sacred for Italians. So the festive tables, especially Christmas and New Year ones, are always subject to most careful preparations. A New Year’s table must have dishes made with lentil. The Italians believe that lentil brings financial prosperity. Italian New Year parties always last till dawn. It is a national tradition to see the sunrise on the first day of the new year. Another amusing ancient Italian tradition is to throw out old trash right out through the windows on the New Year’s night. While they are getting rid of troubles of the old year, some people can get seriously injured walking under the windows (the objects vary from old pans to wardrobes and TV sets). The Italians don’t do this anymore, but about 60 years ago it was really so.
The Spanish also commonly celebrate New Year till dawn. At the end of the party they eat chocolate Spain doughnuts. Mexico The tradition of eating 12 grapes at the New Year midnight is popular in many countries, but is cherished particularly carefully in Mexico, where it’s an analytical process. has to be eaten. Each grape symbolizes one of the months, so as they eat one grape at a clock stroke, the Mexicans examine their taste very carefully, as it tells what that month will be like.
Venezuela Those Venezuelans who want to spend the coming year travelling have to carry a suitcase around the house for the whole December 31 day. They also celebrate the party wearing yellow underwear, as it is believed to bring good luck. The Venezuelans write all their wishes and dreams on sheets of paper before the New Year night. When midnight is close they put their wish-notes together and burn them down.
France The whole Europe likes to make a lot of noise on the New Year’s night. However, French honor this tradition with the most respect, as it is based on an old belief that noise will chase bad spirits away, which are most active on the New Year’s Eve when the coming year replaces the previous one. So, French cities are extremely noisy on New Year’s night. The French believe that the first person to enter the house on the first day of the new year symbolizes what that year will be like for the hosts. The midnight guest must be male in the first place, as they bring fortune.
Poland People from this Latin American country traditionally greet the New Year by throwing a bucket full of water out into the street. This way they get rid of everything bad and prepare for the good things to come in the coming year. They also have a special New Year spell for good luck by scattering the house and yard with Puerto Rico sugar.   Bread baking is one of the prime New Year traditions in Poland. Homemade doughnuts, called paczki in Poland, for the New Year will bring prosperity in the coming year.
Philippines Children in Philippines have to jump 10 times at the New Year’s midnight if they want to grow tall. Also, Philipinos  serve tables with various fruits in various colors and wear clothes with any round ornament to bring prosperity.   Japan Traditionally on New Year’s Eve house facades are decorated with straw garlands in Japan. Those garlands scare evil spirits away and bring luck and happiness. Once the new year arrives, Japanese laugh out loud as laughter is attracting good luck as well.
Denmark Denmark has a well-cherished tradition to have a pile of broken dishes at the front door. The Danish collect dishes for the whole year and then break them at their friends’ and neighbor’s doors. If you find a lot of broken plates at your door in the morning you are lucky to have many friends.
The Netherlands In the Netherlands branches of juniper are brought into the house before the New Year’s Eve. Those branches are first carried around the house and are then burnt. This ritual helps to get rid the house of diseases.
