if I speak with the tongues of men and angels and have not love, I am a resounding Gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and have all knowledge and all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And if I give away all my possessions, and give my body to be burned, but have not love, no me no good. Love has patience, is kind, love is not jealous, love is not arrogant, does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all transfers. Love never fails, though prophecies will be abolished and tongues will cease, and knowledge abolished.

Percy Bysshe Shelley and Mary Shelley Mary and Percy began meeting each other secretly and they fell in love—she was nearly seventeen, he nearly twenty-two.  Mary Shelley was an English novelist, short story writer, dramatist, essayist, biographer, best known for her  novel Frankenstein. She got an excellent education.  She also edited and promoted the works of her husband, the Romantic poet and philosopher  Percy Bysshe Shelley. Their life was not easy. Their parents disapproved their marriage. Often they had no money to live on. Mary lost her firs t child. Shelley and Edward Williams drowned while on a boating trip on 8 July, 1822. After her husband death Mary devoted her life to their son and literary work. The British aristocratic society didn’t recognize her but it didn’t matter for her. She never got married again. Shelley was the only love of her life.

Percy Bysshe Shelley devoted his best poems to his wife To Yet look on me--take not thine eyes away, Which feed upon the love within mine own, Which is indeed but the reflected ray Of thine own beauty from my spirit thrown. Yet speak to me--thy voice is as the tone Of my heart's echo, and I think I hear That thou yet lovest me; yet thou alone Like one before a mirror, without care Of aught but thine own features, imaged there; And yet I wear out life in watching thee; A toil so sweet at times, and thou indeed Art kind when I am sick, and pity me... К …

Love One word is too often profaned   For me to profane it, One feeling too falsely disdain'd   For thee to disdain it. One hope is too like despair   For prudence to smother, And pity from thee more dear   Than that from another. I can give not what men call love;   But wilt thou accept not The worship the heart lifts above   And the Heavens reject not: The desire of the moth for the star,   Of the night for the morrow, The devotion to something afar   From the sphere of our sorrow? To Marry Wollstonecraft Godwin Mine eyes were dim with tears unshed; Yes, I was firm--thus wert not thou;-- My baffled looks did fear yet dread To meet thy looks--I could not know How anxiously they sought to shine With soothing pity upon mine. To sit and curb the soul's mute rage Which preys upon itself alone; To curse the life which is the cage Of fettered grief that dares not groan Hiding from many a careless eye The scorned load of agony. Whilst thou alone, then not regarded, The ... thou alone should be, To spend years thus, and be rewarded As thou, sweet love, requited me When none were near--Oh! I did wake From torture for that moment's sake.

Сharles Darwin and Emma Wedgwood On 29 January 1839 Darwin married his cousin Emma Wedgwood (1808- 96), daughter of his Uncle Jos, with whom he would have ten children. The Darwins settled at their home Down House in the village of Downe in Kent county, England. Darwin's relation to his wife, Emma, was a very special one, for it was with her that Darwin found his happiness. In a life filled with almost continued illness, the presence of Emma transformed Darwin's life into one of "quiet and content gladness". His son, Francis Darwin, writes: "No one indeed, except my mother, knows the full amount of suffering he endured, or the full amount of his wonderful patience. For all the latter years of his life she never left him for a night; and her days were so planned that all his resting hours might be shared with her. She shielded him from every avoidable annoyance, and omitted nothing that might save him trouble, or prevent him becoming overtired, or that might alleviate the many discomforts of his ill-health

Edgar Allan Poe and Virginia Clemm In May 16, 1836 ,Poe officially married Virginia Clemm, his first cousin and love interest. She was just thirteen years old, and Edgar was twenty-seven. The family had to move around shifting homes, given to the changing employments of Edgar. Even though his work didn't receive much accolade, he found solace at home with his affectionate wife, whom he lovingly called Sissy. But tragedy struck when Virginia showed the first signs of consumption in 1842. She could not recover completely. Virginia and Poe were by all accounts a happy and devoted couple. Poe's one-time employer George Rex Graham wrote of their relationship: "His love for his wife was a sort of rapturous worship of the spirit of beauty." Poe once wrote to a friend, "I see no one among the living as beautiful as my little wife." She, in turn, by many contemporary accounts, nearly idolized her husband. She often sat close to him while he wrote, kept his pens in order, and folded and addressed his manuscripts

Edgar Allan Poe devoted his best poems to his young wife Annabel Lee It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of ANNABEL LEE; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me. I was a child and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea; But we loved with a love that was more than love- I and my Annabel Lee; With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven Coveted her and me. And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee; So that her highborn kinsman came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea. The angels, not half so happy in heaven, Went envying her and me- Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we- Of many far wiser than we- And neither the angels in heaven above, Nor the demons down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee. For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride, In the sepulchre there by the sea, In her tomb by the sounding sea.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my "'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber Only this, and nothing more." Raven and weary, lore, a tapping, chamber door. door- December, upon the floor. borrow Lenore-     Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost Eagerly I wished the morrow;- vainly I had sought to From my books surcease of sorrow- sorrow for the lost For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore- Nameless here for evermore. And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple Thrilled me- filled me with fantastic terrors never felt curtain before;

John Lennon and Yoko Ono John first met Yoko at the Indico Art Gallery in London during an avant-garde show displaying the artistry of Yoko Ono. John was born from a blue collar family and became an overnight superstar. Yoko was the disappointing offspring of a high collar financial family. She preferred to stay an intellectual in the world of Art.  Tragically, John was assassinated in front of his own home, with Yoko and his son still inside. And why? Because he had too much love and peace in his heart. Hatred tried to bring him down. But Yoko survived and still shows many signs of tribute to her long lost love. His love for the world and desire for peace survived through his own intense love for Yoko and their son.
