Yakov Davidovich Vitebsky was the famous surgeon  gastroenterologist deserved by the doctor of RSFSR, the  doctor of medical sciences, the People's Deputy of RSFSR

Yakov Davidovich Vitebsky  was born on June 30, 1919 in  the city of Kremenchug. He  graduated from the first  Kharkov medical institute  with honors .   He began the work in  October, 1941 in Kurgan city  hospital the surgeon and in  too time worked in the  hospitals of the city Kurgan

From 1943 to 1946  Yakov Davidovich  worked as the chief  physician of Kurgan city  hospital. In August, 1946  it was transferred to  work as the manager of  surgical office of Kurgan  regional hospital

Since 1949 within 37  years Vitebsky was the  chief surgeon of the  Kurgan regional public  health department. He  made a big contribution  to development of health  care and surgery of the  Kurgan region

Scientific and practical activities  Vitebsky were connected with  development and deployment of  innovations in the field of band  surgery of a digestive tract. The  brilliant technique of the master,  wide range of the expert were  steadily combined in it with  creative search of the scientist­ innovator. He also defended the  master's thesis on chair of  Sverdlovsk medical institute and  the doctoral dissertation at  Institute of surgery of A. V.  Vishnevsky

In 1973 the order of the  Minister of Health of RSFSR  Yakov Davidovich was  appointed the manager of  problem research laboratory of  gastroenterology in  combination. In 1989 he headed  the Republican center of  valvate gastroenterology in  Kurgan. He embodied the ideas  of the outstanding scientist in  real methods of diagnostics and  treatment

For years of the work Vitebsky  offered more than 50 options of  operations on digestive organs. In  clinical practice he received 2 copyright  certificates and 29 certificates on  improvement suggestions for this  development and introduction.    The  methods of diagnostics and treatment  offered them, new operations were  included into gold fund of domestic  medicine. Yakov Davidovich actively  propagandized the scientific  development, participated in the  international scientific surgical  congresses and conferences, published  about 300 scientific works

Yakov Davidovich paid much  attention to preparation of  medical shots. In operating time  the chief surgeon of the Kurgan  region he trained through  primary specialization,  internship and improvement on  a workplace more than 1200  surgeons. He was the research  supervisor of six successfully  protected and approved master's  theses

Yakov Davidovich was the person of  versatile interests and high public  activity. It won a rank of the champion  of area on chess the first. Within forty  years he headed the Kurgan regional  organization of society "Znaniye", he  was elected the People's Deputy of  RSFSR.   For progress in scientific, production  and public work Vitebsk the rank  "The honored doctor of RSFSR" is  given, he is awarded by the Orders of  Lenin, the Labour Red Banner,  October Revolution, Friendship of the  people, a medal of S. I. Vavilov

Since 1993 in  Kurgan the  memorial of the  first champion  Kurgansky of area  on Yakov  Davidovich  Vitebsky's chess is  carried out

In 2014 to Yakov Davidovich  the rank "The honourable  citizen of the Kurgan region",  posthumously is given. His name is born by the  linden put in May, 2016 in  Ilizarov's Center on the  avenue of the world and  friendship of a name of the  genius of orthopedics G. A.  Ilizarov
