“Birthday traditions in different countries”

Objectives:

1.     To acquaint the students with Birthday traditions in different countries;

2.     To help understand the meaning of the customs and traditions associated with Birthday holidays;

 

3.     To develop the leadership qualities of students through oral language, critical thinking and creative abilities of students;

 

4.     To bring up the patriotic feeling of love for their country, interest in the traditions of different countries.

Greeting!

     Good morning, dear guests and participants of our game!

On the air the capital show “Wonderland”. Today we’ll play the most famous and interesting game.  Our topic is “Birthday traditions in different countries”.  Today you’ll introduce to the representatives of three different countries: Kazakhstan, Japan and the Netherlands.  Meet our members of the game.

 

The greeting of all representatives of countries:

The Netherlands

 

The anchorman:  Now, listen to the rules of our game. So today we have unusual game and our participants should make their questions to each other.  

The first question is from Japan. Turn the drum. Oh, your question is for…(Kazakhstan/The Netherlands)

                                    Birthday Celebrations from Japan

    In Japan a girls 3rd or 7th birthday during the year or a boy who has had his 5th go to the shrine on November 15th. At the shrine they give thanks to God for their health and strength, and pray for a long life to come. This is due to the fact that a long time ago children died before their 3rd, 5th or 7th birthdays. After they have been to the shrine a family feast is held at their home.

     This ceremony is known as the "7, 5, 3", on this day they wear your best kimono and if you're a girl, a ribbon in your hair. The best thing that might happen is that you can go and buy a special bag of candy with the words "sweets for 1000 years of life" written on them.

(the third, the fifth, the seventh)

Birthday Celebrations from the Netherlands

      The Dutch homes have a calendar in the bathroom that has everyone's birthday listed as the birthday is considered an important event. The calendar is placed in the bathroom as a reminder to visit friends and relatives on their special day.

     The children have a cake with candles. They eat pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar. They also eat the tartlets on their birthday which is served with lemonade or hot chocolate. Tartlets are tarts made with different kinds of fillings.

     The official language is Dutch.

The task for the second top of players:

What subjects decorate the birthday child’s chair according to the traditions of the Netherlands? (flowers, balloons)

The next question is from Kazakhstan.  This question is for Japan.

     Tussau Kessu - a day when the baby took his first steps the oldest and most respected people is invited to perform a ceremony of Tussau Kessu. Then he or she should cut the special ropes, beset baby's legs, in order to ensure that in future the kid could walk nicely and run fast.

The task for the next top of players:

What do the fetters (bound green grass) mean in tradition of Kazakh people “Tussau Kessu”?  ( growth, development)

The anchorman:  Gifts to the top three players (video gift from Kazakhstan).
