Pavel: ­ Well! Isn’t it high time (не пора ли) we started thinking seriously about  our future?  Olga: ­ What do you mean “ started thinking seriously about our future?” Aren’t  we doing that, all of us?  Nina: ­ We are. We are preparing for our final exams and entrance examinations  (вступительные экзамены) at some institute or university.  Pavel: ­ Entrance exams at some institute or university. That’s what you are  thinking about, but I never meant that. Is it really important to enter some university? when I said that we should start thinking seriously about our future, I meant our  vocation (призвание). I meant that we should finally decide what trade or profession  we should choose as the main line of our lifetime, a trade or profession that is really  close (близко) to our hearts and interest, something we are really good at. Can you  say that you have already chosen such a line, found it?  Olga: ­ I can. It was already in the third form that I made up my mind to become  a teacher. Now more than ever before I am sure my decision is correct. I love  children and I think it’s so good to help them to learn what they didn’t know before.  And besides bringing up good children is a very important task.  Igor: ­ I wish I knew where I would be at my best. What made you to become a  teacher? Olga: ­ Well, you all remember our Olga Glebovna. She was a very good teacher. We saw how much attention she paid to each pupil in the class, how upset  (расстроена) she was if one of us didn’t understand something and couldn’t answer  well. I always wanted to be like Olga Glebovna. Nina: ­ You may discuss a teacher’s profession as much as you please, but I have  decided to become a doctor. A man may know a bit more or a bit less, but all men fall ill and suffer (страдают) and it’s the duty of a doctor to help them, to lessen their  sufferings. I think the work of a doctor or a nurse is very noble no less than a teacher.  Igor: ­ A man must be brave and decisive in order to become a doctor. You must  be brave to take upon yourself the responsibility for a man’s life, to choose the  correct treatment at the right moment. If you are wrong, it may cost a man his life.  Lena: ­ Since we’ve been speaking of doctors and illnesses I want to become a  nurse. It is the nurse who is near the person that is ill. It is she, her kind word, her  kind look that may be of great help to a person who is suffering.  1.
