Once upon a time there was a family of 4 members , dad, mum and two children, a little boy and a girl. They lived very poor(очень бедно) and often needed money and meals. That year was especially severe(особенно суровый), so the family had no food anymore and hunger was coming(наступал голод).

So, parents agreed(согласились) that would be better take the kids to the forest to be eaten by wolves than they would die(умерли бы) at home due to hunger(из-за голода). Father took them to the wood, but the boy picked up some white stones and dropped them one by one, that’s why the kids found the way back easily.

Having come home(придя домой) the kids learnt that their father had been hired(нанят, принят) to do a new job. But they were happy no long, soon father lost his job and they were taken to the forest again, into far backwoods(чаща),  in order to they would not search a way back.

The boy had got some white bread and he broke off and threw pieces of bread on the ground to find the way back. But there was a heavy rain, in addition(к тому же) birds ate all the bread, the kids had no chance to get back home. They were scared and cried all the night.

Wandering around(бродя по) the forest the kids found a gingerbread house(пряничный домик) where an old woman lived. She invited them to be guests at her home. She fed the kids sweets in order that they would be plump and fat, the boy ate sweets because he was very hungry, the girl thought there was something wrong.

Speaking truly the woman was a real witch and she wanted to have the kids for dinner.  She lit up the oven(разожгла печь) and drew(потащила) the girl to the fire. But the girl said that the fire was not so hot to cook her and asked the witch to check it herself. So as the witch got in the oven the boy pushed her inside(толкнул внутрь).

The witch perished in the fire(погибла, сгинула) and the kids found her gold, dad found them, they began to live in the witch’s house, so they and their parents lived long and happy needing nothing!

But it was very rainy, bread got wet and in addition birds ate all the bread, the kids didn’t have chances to get back home. They were very afraid of darkness and cried all the night.

I) Walking around the forest the kids found a gingerbread house where an old woman lived. She invited the kids to be guests at her home. She was very smiley and kind, she fed the kids candies in order that they would be plump and fat, the boy ate candies a lot, because he was very hungry, but the girl was smarter, she thought there was something wrong.

VI) The girl was right, it was not an ordinary old woman, it was a true evil witch and she wanted to have the kids for dinner.  She lit up the furnace and drew the girl to the fire. But the girl said that the fire was not so hot to cook her and asked the witch to check it herself. So as the witch got in the oven the boy pushed her inside and closed the furnace cover.

IV) Of course, the evil witch died in flames of the fire forever! The kids found her gold, dad found them, they began to live in the witch’s house, so they and their parents lived long and happy needing nothing!
