In different cities of Russia there are monuments to nurses of the Great Patriotic war - in Chelyabinsk, Sevastopol, Cherepovets, Moscow, Belgorod, etc.

The Monument to nurses

The monument was opened on may 8, 2005 in the town of Khimki. It is the Monument to nurses who worked in military hospitals in 1941-1945.

It is located in the city square and is part of an extensive memorial complex: there are also memorials immortalized* the memory of those who died on the fronts of the great Patriotic war, to home front workers and liquidators of the Chernobyl accident.

The author of the sculptural composition – V.A. Evdokimov. It is made in cast bronze and installed on a pedestal of red granite. The height is 5.5 meters. The model for creating the image of a nurse was Maria Petrovna Semikova, who went through the war from the first to the last day and met Victory day in Berlin. Her image captured on a front-line photo became a symbol of young women from Khimki who came to military hospitals and saved thousands of lives.

During the war there were up to 10 hospitals in Khimki where doctors and nurses saved more than five thousand wounded from death. Graduates of the Library Institute helped doctors. The monument is the central object of the Memorial of Military Glory of the city of Khimki and is clearly visible at the entrance to New Khimki
