Objectives:

• to practise listening for specific information and then — intensive listening;

• to broaden students’ knowledge of the topic;

• to practise students’ speaking skills;

I. Vocabulary

Classify these things as healthy (H) and unhealthy (U).

Bread (H), chocolate (U), cigarettes (U), fried eggs (U), fresh fruit (H), fresh

vegetables (H), meat (H), milk (H), pasta (H), tomatoes (H), sweets (U).

II. Listening\ Speaking

1. Listen to the sport teacher and check your answers.

2. Listen again; which food gives us:

1) carbohydrates?

2) vitamins?

3) protein?

R e a d e r. Well, when you do sport, your body needs different types of food.

You don’t have to go on a special diet, but you must eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables because they give you lots of vitamins. You don’t have to take vitamin pills, fresh fruit and vegetables are enough. You also need energy so you have to eat things like bread, potatoes and pasta which are full of carbohydrates. But you

mustn’t eat things like chocolate and sweets because you get fat — and they’re also bad for your teeth. Er, finally, protein is very important, of course, so you must drink milk and eat beans and eggs — but not fried eggs, they’re bad.

Oh, and one more thing — if you want to play sport well, you mustn’t smoke

cigarettes.

III. Role play

Student A. You are in a burger bar with a friend. Before you start, decide what

you want to eat and drink.

— hamburger;

— chicken burger;

— cheeseburger;

— French fries;

— salad;

— juice / cola / water.

You start. Ask your friend what he / she wants to eat and drink.

After the meal, you want to:

— watch a video at your house or

— play in the park.

Decide what to do with your friend.

Student B. Your partner starts. Then  you want to find out what to eat and drink.

After the meal you want to.

— look at the shops or

— play computer games in your house.

IV Writing 

Make up a dialogue about healthy food.

VI. Homework

Repeat your  dialogue about healthy food.
