In our family, the New Year is celebrated first, and after Christmas. On New Year's Eve we give each other gifts, decorate the house. We put a big green Christmas tree and dress it up. We gather the whole family at a large table, we talk heart to heart.

Christmas in the UK is celebrated on December 25. On the eve of the holiday, near the country's main Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square, charitable organizations organize performances for adults and children about the birth and life of Jesus Christ. Musical groups and choirs perform Christmas carols. Leicester Square hosts the country's main fair, where you can buy souvenirs, gifts, jewelry and feast on festive sweets.

The main dish of the festive table is baked stuffed turkey or goose. There are also traditional dishes of English cuisine on the table: baked potatoes with bacon, roasted chestnuts, braised Brussels sprouts with parsnips. A popular Christmas dessert is pudding. Christmas cards are popular in the UK. Residents of the country send them in large numbers to relatives, friends, acquaintances. Children receive gifts from Santa Claus. They write him letters with wishes and burn them. So the messages must reach the North Pole. Santa Claus puts gifts in socks that children hang in front of their beds on the eve of the holiday. In gratitude, the girls and boys leave their favorite character a glass of brandy and a piece of meat pie.
