Primary Schools in Great Britain.

There are two stages in primary education in Great Britain: infant schools and junior schools.

Infant schools

English children go to school at the age of four or five. Infant Schools are not real schools. Children spend four years in infant schools till they are seven. Children do not have a regular timetable and their classes are not formal.

They draw pictures,

Make different things with their hands,

Pupils sit on the floor and listen to their teacher.

They play games

And have a lot of fun.

Children are often outdoors.

In infant schools pupils begin to learn the alphabet,

To write,

And count a little bit too.

When infant school is over pupils go to junior schools.

Junior Schools

Junior schools are real schools, pupils sit in rows and follow a regular timetable.

Classes begin at 9 o’clock and are usually over at four o'clock.

Pupils study a lot of important subjects at school: Maths, English, Biology, Geography, Religion, Art, Handicraft, Science,

Nature Study,

Computing,

Swimming and PE,

History,

And they spend a lot of time outdoors too.

Junior school pupils often visit London and other big cities with their teachers.

They see Big Ben,

Ride on London Eye,

And have a lot of fun.

Pupils finish junior school at the age of eleven and they are ready to study in comprehensive schools.

Thank you for attention.
