Yesterday they robbed the bank. - действие произошло в прошлом.
They robbed the bank at 7 p.m. – действие в прошлом с указанием точного времени.

He opened the cage, let out the lion and closed the cage. – последовательность действий в прошлом.

At 7 o’clock am we were driving to the airport. - процесс или действие в определенный момент в прошлом.
