Reading for Pleasure Characters
Lesson objectives

About some popular fairy tale characters
Topical vocabulary to describe them
How a particular character is presented in a story
Was a shepherd rich?
Did the neighbour help the shepherd?

Did the student meet any merchants in his way?
Answer the questions of the text
“The magic garden for poor”
Put the giving sentences in the correct order to create a summary of Part II of the story.
The birds finished building the garden.
The student travelled back to the village.
Some of the poor people stayed to live in the garden.
When the poor people came, the gates opened to let them in.
The rich merchants came and tried to enter the garden, but they couldn’t.
When he arrived, he saw a lot of birds.
He was sad because now he had no money to build the garden.
A small bird promised to help him.
The student bought all the birds from the merchant and set them free.
The student fell asleep because he was too tired.

A protagonist is the central character or leading figure in poetry, narrative, novel or any other story. A protagonist is sometimes called a “hero” by the audience or readers.
An antagonist is s a character or a group of characters which stand in opposition to the protagonist or the main character.
