Arthur Conan Doyle was a great writer. He was born in Scotland into a family of Irish origin. He was a doctor. From 1876 to 1881 he studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh. While studying, he also began writing short stories; his first published story appeared before he was 20. His medical knowledge was a great help to him in his detective stories.
"The Lost World"
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is primarily known today for his stories based on the cases of Sherlock Holmes; and most people will not realize that the detective stories make up only a part of the writer’s biography.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle also would put his heart and soul into writing historical works or fantastical stories.
The Lost World is one of these fantastical stories.
The basic storyline tells of an exploratory expedition dispatched from London under the leadership of Professor Challenger.
The destination of the expedition being a mysterious plateau deep in the heart of the Amazon basin.
Professor Challenger is convinced that the plateau is home to creatures that were thought to be extinct, and now he wants to silence the doubters and prove that he was right.
