1. Staff-"compensation". Michigan got its Upper Peninsula only because it lost the war for the city of Toledo to Ohio.
2. An island without cars. Cars have been banned on Mackinac Island since 1898. They only ride horses and bicycles there.
3. The cradle of the automotive industry. It was here that Henry Ford launched the first assembly line. Detroit is a "ghost town" that is now being revived.
4. The rubber Capital. There is a giant statue of a car tire in the state that used to be a Ferris wheel.
5. There are more lighthouses than anywhere else. The coastline is longer than that of any other state (except Alaska). There are about 150 lighthouses here.
