Childhood and youth

Viktor Tsoi was born on June 21, 1962 in Leningrad into an international family: his father, Robert Maksimovich Tsoi, was Korean, and his mother, Valentina Vasilyevna, was Russian. From an early age, little Vitya painted with great pleasure, and his parents sent him to study at an art school, where he made progress. But in high school, Vitya's successes were not so impressive. He showed interest only in English, although he studied German at school. In the fifth grade, Choi suddenly became interested in music. His parents bought him a guitar, and soon the future musician gathered his first band "Ward No. 6" with his friends. After graduating from the ninth grade, Tsoi entered the Leningrad Art College. The creative path

In 1981, Tsoi, together with Alexei Rybin and Oleg Valinsky, created the Garin and Hyperboloids group, which rapidly began to gain popularity. However, after Valinsky left for the army, the band was renamed "Cinema", and in 1982 the aspiring musicians released their debut album "45". The new name of the band turned out to be a happy one, and the All-Union fame fell on the musicians. The most popular compositions at that time were "Aluminum cucumbers", "Trolleybus", "Electric train". In 1983, the second album of the band called "46" was released. In the wake of the success of Kino, it was necessary to stop its activities for a while. Viktor Tsoi was drafted into the Soviet Army, but he managed to avoid military service. In short, Choi made a false suicide attempt, as a result of which he ended up in a psychiatric hospital. After leaving the hospital, he returned to his work.

Personal life

Viktor Tsoi was officially married once. His wife was Marianna Rodovanskaya, who gave the musician a son, Alexander. To be close to her beloved husband, Marianne even quit her job and became the administrator of the Kino group. On the set of "Assy", Tsoi met the assistant director Natalia Razlogova, for whom he abandoned his family. However, the musician did not manage to get a divorce from Marianne and marry his new sweetheart. Tsoi has no children in common with Natalia.

The first album

In the summer of 1981, the Garin and Hyperboloids group appeared. It was founded by Viktor Tsoi, Oleg Valinsky and Alexey Rybin. In autumn, the band was accepted into the Leningrad Rock Club. A little later, Valinsky goes into the army, and the band changes its name to Cinema and begins recording the first album. The first record of the Movie was recorded under the direction of BG at the studio of Andrei Tropillo in the House of a Young Technician. By the way, the musicians from the Aquarium helped to play. After the Movie, he already gives his first electric concert at the Leningrad Rock Club festival. In the summer of 1982, the first album was completely recorded and the length of the songs was 45 minutes. Hence the name. But the song I am Asphalt was still removed from the final version, it can be found in the reissue of the album, as a bonus. After the release of the record, the band was talked about and the Cinema began to perform with the tenants in Leningrad and Moscow. And in the autumn of the same year, the band recorded several songs at Kuskov's studio, in particular, The Last Hero and Spring.

Psychiatric Hospital

In the fall of 1983, Viktor Tsoi was admitted to a mental hospital. He went to the hospital on a Buckle for examinations for a month and a half, evading the army. After discharge, he wrote the song Tranquilizer. And in the spring, the band performed at the second festival of the Leningrad Rock Club. There, the Movie received a laureate title, and the composition I declare my house a nuclear-free zone became the best.

The second Movie line-up

In the summer of 1986, Tsoi got a job at a sauna on Veterans Avenue. He had to clean the premises from a fire hose. Only an hour a day was allocated for work – from 22 to 23. In the summer of the same year, the participants of the Cinema left for the filming of the film The End of the holidays in Kiev. After that, the band gives a concert with Alice and the Aquarium in Moscow. And these same groups entered the Red Wave in the USA. In the fall, Victor is invited to work as a stoker. Tsoi agreed and went to work in the Kamchatka boiler room. By the way, not a single rock musician grew up here. Rashid Nugmanov also organized the filming of the short film Yya-Kha here. And then the filming of Alexei Uchitel's film Rock took place. Victor Tsoi is present in both films. A little later, the musician goes to Yalta to shoot the Assa of Sergei Solovyov. In the spring of 1987, the picture was released, and then the band took its last part in the rock club festival.

In early 1989, the band went abroad for the first time, to France and recorded the album The Last Hero there. This was followed by a trip to the USA. Meanwhile, the film Igla takes second place at the box office, and Tsoi is recognized as the best actor of the USSR at the Golden Duke Film Festival in Odessa. The last Cinema concert was held on June 24, 1990 in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium. Here, for the first time since the Olympics, a fire was lit in the Olympic Bowl. After the performance, Tsoi and Kasparyan left for Jurmala to record material for the next album with an acoustic guitar. It was completed and brought together after the death of Viktor Tsoi. And released in December 1990 under the name Black Album.

In parallel, the recording of the album Blood group begins. And in the fall of 1987, Tsoi flew to Alma-Ata to shoot the film Needle. At this time, the blood group is being finalized and the band temporarily stops concert activities. Both the film and the record were released in 1988. They gave rise to the "movie mania" among teenagers. Young people began to imitate Viktor Tsoi and dress in black. Then the march of the Cinema group begins in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The concerts are sold out. On November 16, 1988, at a concert in memory of Sasha Bashlachev, during a performance by Viktor Tsoi, the bells were suddenly turned on — it was supposed to be the final one – and the microphone was turned off. Choi stopped playing, the administration says that the concert is over and it's time to disperse. The musician did not leave the stage and tried to say something to the audience. After the microphone was turned on and Victor said that it was pointless to continue the concert after the song. For such "rebellion", the band was suspended from concerts in Moscow for a year.
