Tikhon of Zadonsk

Tikhon of Zadonsk (1724-1783)

He was born in the village of Novgorod region
In 1758 he was tonsured with the name Tikhon
In 1763 the Saint was transferred to the Voronezh
Department
In 1769, the Saint was transferred to the monastery of Theotokos in the city of Zadonsk
He was the founder of school education in Yelets in 1735.
In 1996 the first Orthodox School in honor of St. Tikhon Zadonsky was opened in Lipetsk region

He said: “There are two ways and you can choose only one: the one serves the enemy, the other serves the God. If you want to serve the enemy, you will drink alcohol yourself and treat people, celebrating weddings and christenings. If you want to serve the God, you will stop drinking and treating. Do not be afraid that you will be judged by people, fear God”.

Moderationists argue that the wine is a gift from God, and it should not be banned.

Abstentsionists, in turn, stand for the total abstinence from alcohol.

Prohibitionists, are also for the total ban on alcohol.

Father Nikolai Bryantsev

Years of life: 1869 – 1918

He served in the Nativity Church in Yelets

He was an educator and a founder of the Christmas Argamach`ya temperance society in the city of Yelets in 1898.

He was born on 12 September, 1843 in the city of Yelets, Oryol province (now Lipetsk region)
He was a writer and a priest
His life was linked to the struggle for spiritual enlightenment, the inner development of a person
He led the fight for the purity and morality of the people but particularly active was his fight against alcoholism
From 1912 Bulgakovsky acted as an editor and a publisher of the magazine “The Russian Gazette Sobriety."
He died after 1918 in Petrograd

In December 1887, Tolstoy created a company "Accord against drunkenness." In just a few months it took 744 members
Tasks of the society Tolstoy formulated in the article "It's time to control oneself."
He died on 20 November , 1910, at the station of Ostapovo, now it’s Leo Tolstoy town in Lipetsk region

Michail Sergeyevich Solomentsev
He was born on 7 November, 1913, Yelets
M.S. Solomentsev was the most staunch teetotaler, who was one of the organizers of the anti-alcohol campaign of 1985-1987
He lived for almost 95 years and recommended a miracle recipe from his mother to everybody: "Do not drink, do not smoke and live as long as you want.“
He died on 15 February, 2008, Moscow
