Aims:
To find out what Brexit is.
To look at Brexit from different sides.
To find positive and negative sides.
To decide what Brexit means for Britain and
its:
traditions;
economy;
finance;
science;
education.
What is Brexit?
The people of Britain voted for a British exit,
or Brexit, from the EU in a historic referendum
on Thursday, June 23d, 2016.
Hot changes
Britain got a new prime minister – Theresa May.The
former home secretary took over from David Cameron, who
announced he was resigning on the day he lost the
referendum. She became PM without facing a full
Conservative leadership contest.
Hot changes
The outcome
prompted jubilant
celebrations among
Eurosceptics around
the Continent and sent
shockwaves through
the global economy.
After the declaration of
the result, the pound
fell to its lowest level
since 1985 and David
Cameron resigned as
Prime Minister.
Where does Theresa May stand on Brexit?
Theresa May was against
Brexit during the referendum
campaign but is now in favour
of it because she says it is
what the British people want.
Her key message has been
that "Brexit means Brexit" and
she triggered the two year
process of leaving the EU on
29 March, 2017. She set out
her negotiating goals in a letter
to the EU council president
Donald Tusk. She outlined her
plans for a transition period
after Brexit in a big speech in
Florence, Italy.
Her politics
The Prime Minister
said that she wants a
'bold' EU free trade
deal, while the UK will
come out of the
customs union in its
current form.
She added: "We will
seek a new and equal
partnership between
and independent, self-
governing Global
Britain and our friends
and allies in the EU."
Brexit and the Queen
Everybody knows that
the Queen has no power
to take part in the
referendum.
She can‘t change the
result of the historic vote,
even vetoing the move to
leave the EU?
A Buckingham Palace
spokes man said, “ the
Queen remains politically
neutral, as she was for 63
years. The referendum
will be a matter of the
British people.”
Traditions
One of the reasons against the EU is that
Britain can simply fuse in the multicultural
Europe. Britain has been a great country with
lots of traditions, customs and very long and
amazing history. And nobody wants to lose it.
Place in the world
Brexit campaigners believe that British
voters have taken a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity to restore Britain's sovereignty.
Eurosceptics see EU institutions as
inherently undemocratic and argue that laws
that affect the UK should not be decided by
bureaucrats in Brussels.
What will happen to the UK?
It is very possible that the UK would be
disunited as Northern Ireland and Scotland
can remain in EU.
Brexit referendum results
As you see, near 52% of the British people
vote for Brexit and only 48% are against.
Economy
The Brexit victory sent
economic shockwaves
through global markets and
Britain lost its top credit
rating.
But the Bank of England
cut interest rates and took
other emergency steps to
stop the UK from slipping
into a recession
There is ongoing
uncertainty over what will
happen once Britain leaves
the EU because it has to
make new trade
agreements with the rest of
the world.
Finance
Brexit will make
financial markets more
sensitive to the
vulnerabilities of the 19-
nation eurozone. Sterling
has already plunged to a
30-year low. Investors
will ask whether, in the
light of the Brexit shock,
eurozone governments
have the political will and
public support to
strengthen the
architecture of European
monetary union.
Science
UK universities are
widely recognized as being
amongst the strongest in
the world. In addition,
research undertaken in UK
universities, notably of
course in the biomedical
field, is widely recognized
as being strong and of
economic importance; In
2012, for example,
biomedical research was
calculated to contribute
£7.6 billion to the
economy. This success has
been built on the back of
effective funding models
which have included
significant research and
infrastructure funding
from the EU.
Education
“Every year,
universities generate
over £73 billion for the
UK economy - £3.7billion
of which is generated by
students from EU
countries, while
supporting nearly
380,000 jobs. Strong
universities benefit the
British people - creating
employable graduates
and cutting-edge
research discoveries that
improve lives.” – these
are the words of the
voters.
Language. New Words.
Following GB some
european countries are
also thinking of leaving
EU. Some new words
appeared:

Frexit (exit of France)
Swexit(exit of
Sweden)

What's happening now?
The UK has voted to leave the
European Union. It is scheduled to
depart at 11pm UK time on Friday
29 March, 2019. The UK and EU
have provisionally agreed on the
three "divorce" issues of how much
the UK owes the EU, what
happens to the Northern Ireland
border and what happens to UK
citizens living elsewhere in the EU
and EU citizens living in the UK.
Talks are now moving on to future
relations and a plan for a two
year "transition" period to smooth
the way to postBrexit relations.
My opinion
Brexit means a lot for the country and
British people. It is an significant event in the
history of Great Britain. And of course, it will
have different repercussions.
Being an economical action, it can end up
that many people will lose their jobs in the
change of the economy.
But for Britain, who always was free and
even was The Empire, it is a chance to leave
the EU and become absolutely independent
again.
My opinion
The positive
sides of Brexit
are, of course,
in traditions. It
is very
necessary for
the UK to save
its individuality
as a country, its
power on the
world stage
and its real
British spirit.
