Introduction:
Hello, ladies and gentlemen, I am Alexander Andreevitch, a teacher in school 89 and today I would like to present you my project “Geographical situation and nature of Spain”
1) Geographical situation: First of all let me tell you of the geographical situation of Spain, or the Kingdom of Spain as its official name sounds.
a) hemisphere of Earth: Spain is situated in the northern and eastern hemisphere.
b) continent: Spain is located on the continent of Eurasia, in Europe.
c) area: It’s enough large state in comparison with other European countries because it occupies the area of 500 000 square kilometers, it is one of the largest countries in Western and Southern Europe.
d) length of the territory: It’s maximal spread for 1000 km from the west to the east and for 840 km from the south to the north.
e) state borders: Speaking of its situation you can notice it has got the state boarders with France in the north, Portugal in the west and Morocco in the south. The longest state boundary is Portugal, about 1200 km.
Another variant: Spain lies between Portugal in the West and France in the north.
2) Nature recourses: Now it’s time to describe what nature resources can be found in Spain.
a) Water resources+the longest river: Spain is washed by the Atlantic ocean and its part, the Bay of Biscay in the west and north, the Mediterranean sea and the Straits of Gibraltar wash it in the south and east, in other words Spain has got access to the World ocean.
Spain is not rich with water resources like other countries as Russia or Brazil, just some rivers are longer 100km, but there are such long and large rivers as the Duero, the Guadiana and the Tagus which flow through the territory of Spain and Portugal and flow into the Atlantic ocean. The longest one is the Tagus, about 1000 km. As you see, Spain has a lack of water resources.
b) climate and climate zones: The territory of Spain is widely covered with forests including the beech, the spruce, the pine, the oak and the fir only in the north near the Bay of Biscay and the French boundary in the Pyrenees. Wood resources are limited, though woods are guarded by the state and spread today, that’s good. I can state that Spain is a land of the typical Mediterranean subtropical climate near the seacoast and drought climate in the centre, so the country needs to be irrigated.
c) mountains, mountain ranges+the highest peak: Highlands and mountains occupy the most part of Spain, in the north there’s the range of the Pyrenees, one of the highest mountain ranges in Europe, this range divides Spain from France, there is the highest peak of Spain – the Aneto, its height estimates 3400m. , in the center of the country there is the Inner Plateau , its middle height is 500-700m. So, Spain is a land of highlands, not lowlands.
Conclusion: So, Spain is very rich with geographical objects like mountains and highlands, on the other hand it is poor with water and green.
Thanks a lot for your attention, I have finished to present my project, good bye!
