Глагол to be употребляется, чтобы сообщить:

1. о том, кто мы:

                         I am Mary. I am a pupil.

2. о погоде:

                         It is cold. It isn’t very warm today.

3. о времени:

                        Its ten oclock.

4. о местоположении:

                  We are in London. John is in America.

5. о возрасте:

                        She is eight years old.

6. о чувствах, ощущениях:

                        I am happy. We are angry.

 

А также для того, чтобы:

 

7. поприветствовать кого-либо:

                           - Hello. How are you?

                           - I am fine, thanks. How are you?

8. извиниться:

                           I am sorry.

9. описать что-либо:

                         It is an old film. It isn’t very good.
