In the foreground of the picture is a large wave that breaks the ship. To the left behind it you can see a huge wave in which, fortunately, no ship hit. On the right you can see another ship that is also absorbed by the wave. A mountain is visible in the background.
The colors in the picture were cold. With the help of cold colors, blue sea waves are very well transmitted. The white colors for the snow on the mountain are also very well matched. Ships are depicted using brown colors.
I think that the artist Katsushika Hokusai managed to convey the atmosphere of a big wave very believably.
