Christmas in Russia is celebrated on January 7

Christmas in the UK is celebrated on the
25th of the December. During the weeks before Christmas
people send cards, watch nativity plays and go to carol services. They put up Christmas decorations in their homes and churches.

Christmas is a truly magical season,bringing families and friends together to share the much loved customs and traditions.Most people are on holidays and stay at home with their family on Christmas day. They have a Christmas dinner at midday.

In England people have a traditional dinner: roast turkey with carrots, potatoes and peas. There are sausages and bacon, too. After the turkey there is the Christmas Pudding, a traditional dessert.

Australia

It never snows in Australia for Christmas, mainly because it is Summer!

In Australia, they eat seafood (lobster, prawns, crawfish) for Christmas.

China Christmas in China is called Sheng Dan Jien,which means the Holy Birth Festival.

In China, Santa is called Dun Che Lao Ren.The Chinese light their homes with beautiful paper lanterns and decorate Christmas rees with paper ornaments.


Finland

In the North of Finland, in Korvatunturi, it is said that Santa lives there! Many children around the world send letters there for Santa to read.

Before Christmas see Santa Claus when he gives them presents

Before Christmas dinner, people in Finland like to go to the steam baths (similar to onsen). Unlike many places like America, Australia and England, children see Santa Claus when he gives them presents. .

Mexico

In Mexico the children receive presents from three Kings. Mexican children leave their shoes at the doorstep
When they awake the next morning they are delighted to descover the toys and gifts in and around their shoes

Mexico calls Christmas Navidad. They celebrate Christmas for nine days It is a time when people dress as Mary and Joseph, traveling from house to house asking if Mary may stay the night. They are told the room is full. After which the door opens back up and all are invited in for a party with food, songs, and for the children a Pinata. The Pinata is made of paper mache and filled with all kinds of goodies. The object is to break it open with your eyes blindfolded. After which the children all dive for all the goodies they can pick up. On the ninth night they are told yes there is room for Mary in the stable and all come in for food and after that all go to Church to celebrate the birth of the Christ Child.

Italy

They say Buon Natale instead of Merry Christmas!

In Italy the children receive presents from the good witch Befana
