ENGLISH WITH PLEASURE

Dear friends! Today we`re having an unusual holiday “English with pleasure”. It`s a great joy and a great honor for me to open it.

I would like to welcome all the personalities who are attending this party: our group-mates and, of course, our jury.

So, let`s start. Students, you`ve already learnt much. We had many topics – family, friends, time, weather, flat, clothes, greeting etc.

Now you have two teams. Each team has its place. I wish you good luck and we`re starting the game.

The 1st contest – Warming up.

Students choose cards with names of topics and say as many words referring to the topics as possible. Topics:

                               Vegetables                          School Subjects

                                   Things in the classroom    Months

                                   Fruit                                    Weekdays

                                   Clothes                                Professions

                                   Parts of human body         Flat

                                   Seasons                                Colours

                                   Weather                               Family

The jury marks: each word – 1 point.

Declaring results.

The 2nd contest – Representing the teams.

Each team has a piece of paper and felt tips. Students have to draw their emblems and introduce their teams.

The jury marks: 1 presentation – 1 point.

The 3rd contest – About Great Britain quickly.

Students, now you`d better concentrate your memory. Try to answer the following questions as quickly as you can.

1.            How many parts does Britain consists of?

2.            What is the capital of Scotland?

3.            What river flows in London?

4.            What separates British Isles from the continent

5.            Does the Pacific Ocean wash British Isles??

6.            What is the capital of the Northern Ireland?

7.            What are the largest cities in England?

8.             What basins wash British Isles?

9.             What is the capital of England?

10.         What are the names of the main islands?

11.         How many official languages are there in Britain?

The jury marks: each right answer – 1 point.

Declaring results.

The 4th contest – a game “Just the topic”.
