Leaders Hello, everybody! You are welcome to our English Party.
Leader 1 Our party is devoted to the literature of English speaking countries.
Leader 2You have read many books in English and today we are going to tell you
about them.
Leader 3 And each group of you will show us plays based on the books you read
and liked. You’ll listen to songs too.
Leader 4 Now we’ll get acquainted with them. Seeing is believing.
Leader 1The name of William Shakespeare is known all over the world. The last
half of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th centuries are known as the Golden
Age of English Renaissance and sometimes are called ‘The Age of Shakespeare’.
Leader 2 I like his plays very much. Now listen to an extract from my favourite
play
‘Hamlet, Prince of Denmark’.
(Safin Ural7B (Abdrakhmanova F.I.)
To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether ‘ tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune:
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing, end them?
To die, to sleep,
No more, and, by a sleep to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh in heir to; ‘ tis a cosummation
Devoultly to be wish’d. To die, to sleep
To sleep, perchance to dream…)
Leader 3 It’s great. William Shakespeare wrote 47 plays, 154 sonnets, 2 poems.
Dariya! Do you know that Alla Pugacheva composed the music to the ninetieth
sonnet?
Leader 4 Oh, yes. It’s a wellknown song nowadays. We like to sing it and to
dance.

Leader 1 Galarina! What kinds of books do you prefer?
Leader 2Fantasy, science fiction, classic novel , romance, nonfiction, horror, crime
thriller, biography, adventure…
Leader 1 What about’ The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ by Mark Twain?
Leader 2Oh, I’m fond of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known to the world as Mark
Twain. Little Samuel did not like school but he had many friends and was their leader.
Many events in ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ really took place and the characters
were from real life.
Leader 1 Tom Sawyer is on the stage! ( Mirgalieva G.V., Antonova M.A.)
Leader 1Well done! As for me I prefer ‘The Lord of the Rings’, an epic highfantasy
novel written by English author John Ronald Reuel Tolkien who was born in 1892
in South Africa. It’s the second novel of the author. The first one was ‘The Hobbit’.
Leader 2This highfantasy adventure was published in 1954 in the United
Kingdom.

Leader 3Dariya! When I was a child, my parents read different books to me. When
I learnt to read, I liked fantasy and horror books.
Leader 4 Rodion, I think it is very popular with young people nowadays. My
favourite author of fantasy books is Joanne ‘Jo’ Rowling, commonly known as J.K.
Rowling. She is an English fiction writer and film producer. I like her books about
Harry Potter. I reread them and watched films, too.
Leader 1 Galarina! I think it is impossible to live without reading.
Leader 2 Especially in the childhood. Iskander! What did you like to read when
you were seven years old?
Leader 1‘Through the Looking – Glass’, ‘ Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by
Lewis Carroll. His real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, he was born in 1832 in
England. He was a writer, mathematician, photographer, artist.
Leader 2Yes, he had a wide range of interests. His books are full of wonders,
interesting adventures.
Let’s invite Alice to the stage.( Kisileva Y.Y)
Leader 3Dasha! Are you playful and unpredictable in your life?
Leader 4Oh, no, Rodion! But I know one girl whose name is Pippi Longstocking .
Have you heard about her?
Leader 3 Yes, I have. Everybody knows the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren who
wrote such a wonderful book.
Pippi Longstocking! Where are you?(Safronova S.V.)
Leader 3 – I liked Pippi Longstocking, she’s too funny. Leader 4 – I know the character, that is funnier than Pippi. Everybody knows him
in the world. Alan Milne wrote that book.
Leader 3 I know him. It’s Winnie the Poor. I like his friends, too. They are great
builders. I am fond of songs about them. Let’s enjoy it.
A song about Winnie the Poor and his friends.(MirgaleevaG.V.)
Leader 1We’ve heard about many famous British writers such as Charles Dickens,
Jerome K.Jerome, Walter Scott and many others. The name of Arthur Conan Doyle
is not so well known as the name of his character Sherlock Holmes. He and his friend
Doctor Watson are among the favourite characters of English literature.
Leader 2 Tourists coming to London always go to visit Baker Street to see the house
where Sherlock Holmes lived. And now we’ll get acquainted with him.
(Antonova M.A.)
Leader 3 My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here…
Leader 4 Where is your heart?
Leader 3 My heart’s in the Highlands, achasing the deer.
Leader 4 It’s Robert Burns and his poem ‘ My heart’s in the Highlands’

Leader1We have many books at home. But I often borrow books from our school
library and the city library, too.
Leader 2 Reading is important, because it is a perfect way to learn, to get
information about the world, to entertain oneself, to solve problems.
Leader 3Books are full of wonders, interesting adventures. A book is one of the
greatest wonders in the world.
Leader 4They teach us to be kind and clever, to be hardworking, to be brave and
honest, to understand other people. Thanks to books we can talk to people who lived
in different ages and countries. Through reading books we hear their voices, thoughts
and feelings. The book is faithful and undemanding friend: it can be put aside and
taken up again at any moment. We think you are good readers and we hope you will
remain the same ones.
Leader 3And you are good singers too. As for me I like a traditional Scottish
folksong “ My Bonnie”.
Leader 4 A song “ My Bonnie”7A,B,G (Abdrakhmanova F.I.)
