The topic of our lesson today is: Page Layout. What do you think it is?

The word Layout comes from the word layout, which means appearance. In our case, Laying out pages means creating the appearance of the page.

Reading newspapers, magazines, books, getting acquainted with a variety of printed products, we see different ways of placing text on the page. There are many options for styling pages using different font and paragraph styles.

Text formatting is the process of designing a page, paragraph, line, symbol.

There are two ways of formatting text in WORD: direct formatting of selected fragments and style formatting, with the help of which you can reformat several paragraphs at once without prior selection.

The basic graphical unit of text is a symbol. A sequence of characters forms a text. SYMBOL has the following parameters: typeface - type of font; size (size); Colour.

Font formatting - change the parameters of the entered characters.

To format the font, use the Formatting Toolbar or in the Format | Font.

In the dialog box that opens, you can set the type of font (typeface name), size, style (direct, bold, italic), one of the types of underline, special effects, one of 16 font colors.

Let's take a look at two font formatting technologies:

1) Formatting a font using a dialog box is done as follows:

1. Select a word or group of words.

2. Call the Font dialog box.

3. Make the necessary settings (the result of the settings is displayed in the Sample field) and press the OK button.

2). Formatting a font using the Formatting Panel is done like this:

1. Select a word or group of words.

2. Make the necessary settings using the buttons on the Formatting Panel (the latter can be customized by the user according to his needs through Service | Settings).

In order for the document to have a neater appearance, Paragraphs are necessary. Who can tell me what a paragraph is.

Paragraph - it is a piece of text that ends with the "Enter" key.

Paragraph parameters:

width;

line alignment method (left, right, center, width);

position on the page;

indent on the first line;

line spacing;

 spacing between paragraphs.

Who can tell me what paragraph formatting is

Formatting a paragraph - setting or changing its parameters.

You can format paragraphs directly while typing or after you finish. Formatting can be done using the Format | Paragraph, as well as using the Format Bar.

In the Paragraph dialog box, you can set:

1.                 in the Indent field the indents of the paragraph relative to the right and left borders of the text;

2.                 in the First line field - set the beginning of the first line at the level of the left border of the paragraph, form a red line in the form of an indent or a ledge;

3.                 in the Spacing field, the distance between the paragraph being formatted and the paragraphs adjacent to it (the Before and After counters);

4.                 in the Interline field - the distance between the lines of the paragraph (leading);

5.                 in the Alignment field - one of 4 alignment methods - left-aligned, right-aligned, justified, centered.

Paragraphs that you want to pay special attention to are highlighted with a frame or shading. To do this, use the Border and Fill dialog box in the Format menu.

And who can tell me what a footer is?

Running title - this is the part of the page that contains the permanent text that carries the reference information.

According to the location of this text, headers and footers are divided into headers and footers.

There are several rules for the design of headers and footers:

headers and footers should not be placed on title pages, on sheets containing only illustrations without text, on sheets with the input data of the publication;

the header is not placed on the first page of a large section, and the footer is not placed on the last;

for single-sided printing, the headers and footers on each page are in the same position. If you use double-sided printing, then the spread headers and footers are placed symmetrically relative to the connection line. In this case, the information on the left and right pages may be different;

headers and footers can be constant throughout the publication, or they can differ by section;

the numbering of the pages of the edition, or the column number, is also placed in the footer.

To create and edit headers and footers, use the special toolbar Headers and footers of the View menu.

There are different types of headers and footers. Let's take a look at how to create them step by step.

1) Create a permanent header:

1. Run the command View | Headers and footers.

2. Enter the header and footer text inside the specified rectangle.

3. Format the text.

4. Click the Close button.

(Note: If you create both a header and a footer, then after step 3, you press the toggle between the header and footer button and repeat steps 2 and 3.)

2) Create a header that is different from the main header:

1. Run the command View | Headers and footers.

2. Click the Page Setup button.

3. Go to the Layout section, in the Distinguish headers and footers field, select the First page check box and click OK.

4. Enter the header and footer text inside the specified rectangle.

5. Format the text.

6. Click the Go to Next button (if the first page header was inserted) or Go to Previous.

7. Enter the header and footer text inside the specified rectangle.

8. Format the text.

9. Click the Close button.

(Note: There is no header on the first page, and no footer on the last).

3) Insert different headers and footers for odd and even pages:

1. Run the command View | Headers and footers.

2. Click the Page Setup button.

3. Go to the Layout section, in the Distinguish headers and footers field, select the Even / Odd pages check box and click OK.

4. Enter the header and footer text inside the specified rectangle.

5. Format the text.

6. Click the Go to Next or Go to Previous button.

7. Enter the header and footer text inside the specified rectangle.

8. Format the text.

9. Click the Close button.

Well done !!!

Text in newspapers, magazines, books can occupy the entire width of the page or be located in several columns. The number of columns per strip can vary from one to seven.

The number of columns determines their width, and this, in turn, significantly affects the ease of reading the document. Due to the peculiarities of human vision and reading technique, the eye immediately covers whole phrases, and not individual letters. Therefore, the narrower the column, the more often the gaze should move from one line to another, which leads to quick fatigue. At the same time, a line that is too long also has its drawbacks, as it becomes difficult to constantly look from the end of one line to the beginning of another without losing the desired line.

Now think and tell me what is called "Multi-Column Layout"?

(If students find it difficult to answer, the teacher gives a definition for the record.)

Multi-column layout - arrangement of text in several columns.

When determining the number of columns, it must be remembered that the size of the font depends on the width of the column. The smaller the column width, the smaller the font should be, and vice versa.

What do you think it means "Make up a page".

Make page - means to arrange blocks of text, headings, illustrations, headers and footers and other design elements on the page in a certain order.

In order to split text into two or more columns, use the Format | Columns or Editing panel button. In the dialog box, you can define the number of columns, their width, the distance between the columns, the presence of a dividing line. Column division is performed for the entire document by default. In order to divide a part of the document into columns, either select this part or insert the end of the section symbols using the Menu Break, Insert dialog box.

And who can tell me what "Drop cap" is?

Initial letter is a publishing term for increasing the size of the first letter of the first line.

To design a letter in the form of a drop cap, select it, and then execute the command Format | Initial letter. After the dialog box appears, you can select the position of the drop cap in the text, size, typeface, and distance from the drop cap to the paragraph text.

Well done !!!

V. FPN.

Now, to better consolidate the new material, let's do some practical work.

On the table you have sheets with text from the tale of A.S. Pushkin's "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish", your task is to type the text and make it look like a model, using the knowledge gained in the lesson.

(The teacher, in the process, helps the students if someone doesn't understand.)

Well done !!!

Vi. The result.
