Warm up

The teacher holds a box with different things inside (a small football, coffee beans, Italian pasta, a toy ox and a toy toreador,  a small copy of the statue of Liberty) and asks the students to take one of them from the box and say which country they associate with it.

After that the teacher engages the students to guess about the topic of the lesson.

“ Teacher: What are we going to study today?

  Student : names of countries

Teacher: Right! We will talk about countries and nationalities.”

There is a picture for the dialogue on the IWB (Slide 1). The students don’t see the script while listening.

Megan: Are they new?

Miss Jones: Yes, they are. They are exchange students.

Anna: Are they Italian?

Miss Jones: No, they aren’t.

Megan: Where are they from?

Miss Jones: They are from Poland.

Anna: What are their names?

Miss Jones: Go and ask them, girls!

Anna: Ok, Miss.

Megan: Hi! Welcome to our school!  Our names are Megan and Anna.
