Charles III

Аннотация:  в статье представлена биография Карла III (Чарльза Винздора) действующего короля Великобритании и Северной Ирландии и королевств Содружества из Виндзорской династии. Королевская семья Великобритании, безусловно, одна из самых популярных семей в мире. Ей уделяется немалое внимание в прессе. В сентябре 2022 года умерла королева Елизавета II и меня заинтересовала судьба Британского престола.

BORN

Charles Philip Arthur Mountbatten-Windsor was born on November 14, 1948 in London, at Buckingham Palace. Eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Charles became the oldest person to accede to the British throne, upon the death of his mother, Elizabeth II, on 8 September 2022.

EDUCATION

Charles was the first of the Windsor family who educated in a public school. He received a good education. Charles said: "I did not enjoy school as much as I could - for the reason that at home I was happy like nowhere else." From 1967-1970 he studied archeology, anthropology and history at the prestigious Trinity College, Cambridge University. In 1969, he studied for some time at the University of Aberystwyth in Wales, where he studied the Welsh language and got acquainted with the history of this area. He received his Master of Arts from Cambridge in 1975. Charles studied piano as a child and played the cello as a student at Cambridge. He was also fond of choral singing - he took part in several performances of the Bach choir, a well-known and old amateur group, and then even led it for some time. He embarked on a military career post his graduation and served as a helicopter pilot and even commanded a ship during his service years. Charles founded ‘The Prince's Trust’ in 1976, sponsors ‘The Prince's Charities,’ and is a patron, president, and member of over 400 other charities and organizations.

SPOUSES

On July 29, 1981, Charles married Lady Diana Frances Spencer, daughter of the 8th Earl Spencer. In the first years of marriage, the newlyweds seemed happy. A year later, their first son, Prince William, was born, and in 1984, their second son, Prince Harry. in August 1996, the couple divorced. The death of Diana is a black spot on the biography of Prince Charles. A year later, Diana died in an auto accident. On April 9, 2005, he married Camilla Parker Bowles (born 1947), with whom he had a long-standing relationship. Having received all the titles of her husband, Camilla did not call herself the Princess of Wales in order to avoid associations with the deceased Diana. Parker Bowles took the title of duchess of Cornwall.

TITLES

From the moment of his birth until recently, Charles held a number of titles adopted in England. Charles was presented as His Royal Highness, with the appropriate title added:

1. Prince Charles of Edinburgh (1948-1952)

2. Duke of Cornwall (since 1952).

3. Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester (since 1958)

4. 2nd Duke of Edinburgh (since 2021).

5. Count of Merioneth (since 2021).

6. Baron Greenwich (since 2021).

Charles has several titles in Scotland, personal coats of arms and awards from Great Britain, the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations and other states. Charles Windsor held the title of prince and heir to the crown for the longest time, after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, he received the titles:

1. King of Great Britain and the Commonwealth realms from the Windsor dynasty.

2. Supreme Commander of the British Armed Forces.

3. Supreme Ruler of the Church of England.

According to The Washington Post, the Queen Mother expressed her desire for Charles to become the new ruler after her. The New York Times clarifies that he was born for the role.
