Review library instruction from last class. Introduce plan for the day: library quiz and then paraphrasing. Explain that students will learn criteria and techniques for paraphrasing.

View and discuss Purdue OWL paraphrasing tips. View and discuss Paraphrasing PowerPoint, which summarizes material from Sourcework pp. 6-13. This includes three criteria for paraphrases, sample paraphrases, and paraphrasing techniques. |

After covering Paraphrasing PowerPoint, begin paraphrasing practice and feedback. Teach students how to use the website PollEV.com. Show them a few proverbs and ask them to submit a paraphrased version anonymously. Critique and discuss submissions as they show up on the projector. Next, ask students to paraphrase an academic text, also using Poll EV.
