Давайте посмотрим, чем авиационный язык отличается от общего языка. Сначала небольшая историческая справка.
Английский язык давно является языком межнационального общения, начиналось это еще со времен колоний Великобритании. На территориях многочисленных английских колоний сначала использовались так называемые пиджины (Pidgin-English), которые состояли из смеси местного(-ых) языка(-ов) и упрощенных форм английского языка. Окончательно английский язык в качестве lingua franca утвердился после Второй мировой войны. США не только меньше всех пострадали от последствий войны, но и сумели занять лидирующие позиции в экономике, науке и технике. «За американским долларом стоял английский язык» (David Cristal). В настоящее время для 70% людей, говорящих на английском языке, он не является родным языком.
В радиосвязи на заре развития авиации использовался сначала французский язык, о чем свидетельствует некоторое количество слов французского происхождения во фразеологии радиообмена. Однако в 30-е и 40-е годы, после Второй мировой войны особенно, в авиации английский язык утвердился в качестве языка международного общения. На земном шаре еще остались регионы, где языками международного общения являются испанский и китайские языки, и они используются в радиообмене. К сожалению, русский язык после крушения Советского Союза утратил свои позиции в этом качестве, уступив их английскому языку.
Авиационный английский язык – это язык для специальных целей, или профильно- ориентированный язык. О языках для специальных целей (English for Specific Purposes - ESP) серьезно заговорили в 60-х годах прошлого века.
К концу 80-х были сформулированы основные понятия, что такое языки для специальных целей. Одно из определений было дано в 1987 году: язык для специальных целей – это «скорее подход, чем продукт» (Hutchinson and Waters). По мнению авторов, основой языка для специальных целей является простой вопрос: для чего учащемуся необходимо изучать иностранный язык? В какой области, при каких обстоятельствах учащийся собирается использовать язык?
Позже были даны и другие определения языка для специальных целей, мы приведем одно из последних, наиболее полное.
Абсолютные характеристики:
• Английский язык для специальных целей предназначен для удовлетворения конкретных потребностей учащегося;
• Английский язык для специальных целей использует методологию и виды деятельности, лежащие в основе дисциплины, которую он обслуживает. Английский язык для специальных целей сосредоточен на языке (грамматика, лексика, регистр), навыках, дискурсе и стиле, присущим этому роду деятельности.
Переменные характеристики:
• Английский язык может относиться или быть разработан к/для конкретной дисциплины;
• Английский язык для специальных целей может использовать в конкретной ситуации обучения методы, отличные от общего английского языка;
• Английский язык для специальных целей разрабатывается скорее всего для взрослых учащихся, как для высших учебных заведений, так и для обучения на рабочем месте. Однако он может быть применен для учащихся средней школы;
• Английский язык для специальных целей разрабатывается большей частью для студентов среднего и продвинутого уровней. Многие курсы английского языка для специальных целей предполагают наличие основных знаний языковой системы, но он может быть использован и с начинающими.
Авиационный английский язык соответствует всем перечисленным характеристикам. Авиационным английским языком пользуются диспетчеры и пилоты для ведения радиосвязи, бортпроводники для общения с пассажирами во время полета, производители воздушных судов для написания различных руководств по эксплуатации, составители сборников аэронавигационной информации, разработчики оборудования для организации и управления воздушным движением, метеорологи и т. д.
