Christmas

On the 25th of December there is the greatest holiday of all in England – Christmas. People send X-mas cards to their friends and relatives. People buy a Christmas tree and decorate it with toys, coloured balls and lights.
Children wake up early to find stockings full of small presents on their bed.

New Year

New Year’s Eve all British celebrate on the 31st of December. Most people see with friends and relatives.
At midnight they sings New Year songs and wishes a happy New Year.

Halloween

On the 31st of October there is Halloween. The symbol of this holiday is “Jack o’lantern”. People make it from a pumpkin.
Children like Halloween parties, they put on witch’s and ghost’s dresses. They go “trick or treat”.

St. Valentine’s Day

St. Valentine’s Day comes on February 14. It is widely celebrated among people of all ages. Valentine’s Day is a time when people in love express their feelings to those whom they love or adore.
Today, St. Valentine is the Patron Saint of love, young people, happy marriages and the holiday was named after him. St. Valentine’s Day is a good day for parties. The restaurants and clubs are decorated with red and pink paper hearts. Chocolate, candies and cookies are often cut in the shape of hearts.

St. Patrick’s day.

The 17th of March is a national holiday in Ireland – St. Patrick’s day. On that day people wear a shamrock. A shamrock is a plant with three leaves. It is the national symbol of Ireland.
St. Patrick was a man who had wonderful power. He cleared Ireland of snakes.

Easter
Easter is one of the most important holidays of the year. Easter is the day when Jesus Christ resurrected. Usually this holiday is celebrated in April or at the end of March . Easter eggs and Easter cakes (or paskhas) are the traditional symbols of the religious holiday.
On Easter Sunday children get chocolate eggs and rabbits.

April Fool’s Day
April Fools' Day (sometimes called April Fool's Day or All Fools' Day) is celebrated every year on the first day of April as a day when people play practical jokes and hoaxes on each other. The jokes and their victims are known as "April fools". Hoax stories may be reported by the press and other media on this day and explained on subsequent days. Popular since the 19th century, the day is not a national holiday in any country, but it is well known in Canada, Europe, Australia, Brazil and the United States.

Queen's Official Birthday
The official celebration of the Birthday of an English monarch takes place on the second Saturday of June. To say more precisely, the Royal Birthday can be celebrated on the first, second or third (seldom) Saturday of June. For example, Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926, however, according to the tradition, the official celebration is carried out in the first summer month.
This tradition was established by the British king Edward VII (November 9, 1841 — May 6, 1910). He was born in late autumn, but he wanted to celebrate his birthday in summer, when the weather is good, and at a big gathering of people.

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal. The meal often includes a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie, and vegetables. Thanksgiving Day is a time for many people to give thanks for what they have.
