The first buses appeared on the streets of London back in 1829. They were, of course, drawn by horses and were called "omnibuses".

To increase their efficiency (to transport as many people as possible through the rather narrow London streets), omnibuses began to offer two classes of service:

a comfortable first for wealthier citizens and an open second for ordinary people. This is how prototypes of modern two-storey buildings appeared.

Until 1907, every bus route in London had its own color. To stand out from the competition, London General Omnibus painted its buses red.

In the 1950s, buses received a red color, which made it more attractive, unlike its predecessors.

In 1956, the very famous bus, the embodiment of London, appeared for the first time. The bus has gained huge popularity among Londoners and guests of the British capital.

Despite the fact that Routemaster buses are one of the integral symbols of London, this could not save them from decommissioning. A few years ago, it was decided to remove Routemaster from the streets of London. This happened on December 9, 2005. They were replaced by comfortable low-floor buses.

Over the past few decades, London double-decker buses have been constantly changing, becoming more convenient, safer, environmentally friendly and modern, but no new model can compare with the Routemaster. That is why at the end of 2011 a new, more modern and safer two-storey Rootmaster appeared on the streets of London

The best way to see London is by bus. Take a special open-top tourist bus when the weather is good. Do not miss Hyde Park-go for a walk or sit on the grass and look at the squirrels. Take some food with you too - squirrels love peanuts!

Some interesting facts about double-decker red buses

1. How much did it cost to travel in the first omnibus

The fare in George Schiliber's omnibus was one shilling for a trip from Paddington Station to Bank Station and sixpence for a half-way trip.

2. Is it easy to become a London bus driver

To get behind the wheel of a London bus, drivers need to
complete a 55-hour training course.

3. Is it possible to track the location of buses

The capital's double-deckers are equipped with GPS navigators,
thanks to this, you can use the map to find out about the movements
of buses.

4. Which seats are better to occupy in a double-decker bus?

Undoubtedly, the seat directly above the driver is the best on the bus.

Thank you for your attention!
