Cardiovascular System

The cardiovascular system is a vital part of the human body, responsible for circulating blood, oxygen, and nutrients throughout the body. Understanding its anatomy and function is crucial for medical professionals to provide effective healthcare.

by Marina Denisova

Importance of Studying the Cardiovascular System

1

Early Diagnosis

Comprehensive knowledge of the cardiovascular system enables healthcare providers to identify and address potential issues early on, leading to better patient outcomes.

2

Effective Treatment

Understanding the cardiovascular system is essential for developing and administering appropriate treatments for a wide range of heart and circulatory conditions.

3

Preventive Care

Studying the cardiovascular system helps promote preventive measures, such as lifestyle modifications, to maintain overall cardiovascular health.

The Circulatory System

1

Arteries

Responsible for carrying oxygenated blood from the heart to the body's tissues.

2

Capillaries

Allow for the exchange of nutrients, oxygen, and waste between blood and tissues.

3

Veins

Return deoxygenated blood from the body's tissues back to the heart.

Cardiovascular System Function

Blood Circulation

The heart pumps blood through the arteries, capillaries, and veins, delivering oxygen and nutrients to the body's tissues and removing waste.

Oxygen Exchange

The lungs and cardiovascular system work together to facilitate the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide, ensuring proper oxygenation of the blood.

Blood Pressure Regulation

The cardiovascular system helps maintain a healthy blood pressure by controlling the flow and distribution of blood throughout the body.

Transport of Nutrients

The circulatory system transports essential nutrients, hormones, and other vital substances to the body's cells and tissues.

Cardiovascular System Text and Activities

Reading Comprehension

Students will read a passage on the structure and function of the cardiovascular system and answer questions to assess their understanding.

Vocabulary Practice

Students will complete exercises to reinforce their knowledge of key terms related to the cardiovascular system.

Translation Exercise

Students will translate a short text about the cardiovascular system from English to their native language.

Cardiovascular System Vocabulary

Heart

The main organ of the cardiovascular system, responsible for pumping blood throughout the body.

Artery

Blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body's tissues.

Vein

Blood vessels that carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart from the body's tissues.

Capillary

Tiny blood vessels that facilitate the exchange of nutrients, oxygen, and waste between blood and tissues.

Cardiovascular System Visuals

Heart Structure

A comprehensive illustration of the internal anatomy of the heart, including the chambers and valves.

Circulatory System

A visual representation of the body's blood vessels and the path of blood circulation.

Heart Tissue

A detailed photograph showcasing the intricate structure and appearance of the heart's muscular tissue.

Anatomy of the Heart

Chambers

The heart is composed of four main chambers:

the right atrium – правое предсердие
right ventricle-правый желудочек
left atrium – левое предсердие
left ventricle- левый желудочек

Valves

The heart contains four valves that ensure the unidirectional flow of blood:

tricuspid valve - трехстворчатый клапан
pulmonary valve - легочный клапан
mitral valve – митральный клапан
aortic valve – клапан аорты

Blood Vessels

The heart is connected to the body's circulatory system through the

aorta - аорта
pulmonary arteries – легочные артерии
pulmonary veins – легочные вены

HEART

The heart is a hollow, muscular organ, that pumps the blood throughout the body. It lies behind the breastbone between the organs of the chest, It works during the whole life. It makes beats. A heartbeat is a rhythmic contraction of the heart muscle. When a person is at rest, his heart makes usually 60-90 beats per minute.
You can control the work of your heart taking your pulse. You can strengthen your heart , protect it from diseases by regular regimen and exercises.
The human heart has four chambers through which the blood passes. The heart has left and right atriums (the upper part) and left and right ventricles (the lower port) The septum divides the left and right parts. Between the left atrium and ventricle there is the mitral valve.
Between the right atrium and the right ventricle there is the tricuspid valve. Besides there is a pulmonary valve and an aortic valve at the largest blood vessels which go out of the heart. These one-way valves direct the movement of the blood through the four chambers of the heart. The blood flows to the entire body by means of arteries, veins and capillaries. There are two blood circulations in the human body-greater and lesser (or pulmonary)
Remember that arteries carry the blood from the heart and veins carry the blood to the heart
