Mari food

The basis of the Mari national cuisine are the gifts of woods, fields, rivers and lakes - the fish, game, mushrooms, herbs and berries. Potatoes in Mari is considered to be “the second bread". Dairy products are used widely. A lot of delicious dishes are prepared from them. In large quantities are consumed oatmeal, various cereals. A typical feature of the most dishes of Mari people is their sour or salty taste, Mari people use honey. Spices and seasonings in the kitchen of Mari are used very often

Naturally, any cuisine changes with time. Mari cuisine – isn’t the exception. Nowadays, Mari people prepare not only Mari food. Today Mari families like and they prefer Russian beetroot soup, Italian pasta and many other dishes.

The main food of Mari people is - a variety of soups, dumplings with cottage cheese or meat, boiled sausage, three-layer pancake , cheesecakes ... Popular drinks: beetroot drink and honey drinks. I like Mari national cuisine!
